    desktop icon

I have a icon on my desktop that will not let me delete it. When I try to delete it, I get the message "could not find this item This is no longer located on desktop. Verify the item's location and try again." The icon is on the desktop. Also, it will not let me move it or copy it

    Corruption? Try sfc /scannow.

    64-bit Windows 10

Hello Studdudley, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Refresh (F5) the desktop to see if it may just be a ghost file.

If that doesn't help, then restart the computer to see if it's still there afterwards.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Not sure if this will work, but you might see if the free program Unlocker may be able to delete it.

You could try automatic repair. Doubt it will work given that the suggestions you referred to above did not work. And, Brink's the man.

Unlocker did work good with Windows XP but since Windows 7, it stops working.
You can try the Download LockHunter 64/32 bit For Free. It comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit version.

But before you do it, I recommend you to open the elevated command prompt and run: chkdsk /f c:/

Can you identify the icon? Do you remember what happened/you did when it first turned up. Have you tried system restoring back to before it appeared. You could give that a try.
