Yep MS has been bragging about how many licenses have been sold. They'll be selling quite few less. And Win8 doesn't seem to be doing anything for, maybe even hurting, general PC sales.

Doesn't anyone think that part of the reason for slow new computer sales is the economy, tablet and smart phone use and that there haven't been any major hardware improvements for a while now?

Economy is better this year than last, but computer sales are worse this year than last.

as sales have been slow to say the least I have to agree that sales will flat line or disappear to nothing.
199 equates to around $290 Australian. Even though our dollar is equivalent to about US$0.94, we'll still most likely be paying around $399 for the US$199 version. If it was an Adobe product, we'd probably be paying $599.

It always used to be free, and too bad if you have more than one device at home with Windows 8 (unless of course you create multiple email addresses).

I signed up with 5 different email addresses and used three of them for my three Windows 8 PCs.

Ray, you are spot-on, mate. I bought mine on New Years Eve, at my local Harvey Norman, for $69.95.
But underneath the price sticker, I found THIS.... Gee, I'm glad I decided to buy at $69.95.

Why would you pay $69.99 for it when you can get it for $39.99 online direct from MS?

Prices are different in Australia. The Australian dollar is worth less (I know, hard to believe) and there is import taxes and other taxes.
