Solved Bri Rob

Being a bit of a late starter at Computers, I thought I had just about "cracked" Windows 7, then circumstances made me move onto Windows 8 with a Lenovo G580. It isn't exactly fond of loading up Windows Updates, which I can live with, but I would appreciate any suggestions as to why, all of a sudden It only allows me Internet access through the Desktop. Trying to log onto any site through the Main Screen just tells me I'm not connected to the Internet! Strange, but frustrating. Probably an easy answer but this "old duffer" cannot fathom it out.
Any ideas?
