I thought I only had Windows 8, but looks like 9 was downloaded without me knowing it. If so, that may be the problem that my Quickbooks Pro 2009 will not come up now. Does anyone know if this could be the case? And also, should I not have been asked whether I wanted 9 ? Thanks

As far as I know, Windows 9 does not exist. It may never exist, if the rumors are true about Microsoft abandoning their 3 year OS replacement cycle.

I have very little idea about what you did. For example: some people use "download" as a synonym for "install".

I hope that you haven't got some hacked installer off the torrents.

Oh no!! That is what might have happened. I didn't know I had 9 until I started checking for problems about my quickbooks.... Can I call someone at Microsoft to find out??

I called MicroSoft and it seems it is a legitimate update. My question now is : Is my version of Quickbooks compatible with Windows 9
Next question is: If it is not, now do I uninstall it when my latest updates only have a number and not a description ( Only "Update for Microsoft Windows (then a number here). At least it doesn't seem to be a hacker:)

No offence sparkync,

but there is NO Windows 9!!! Don't think you get the message properly. So, you're question isn't really possible, for Windows 9 DOES NOT EXISTS!!

You can always try a reinstallation of Windows and see if your program Quickbooks works.

Good luck.

sparknyc? What I want you to do is click on that start button, and type in cmd in the Search box, then click on CMD and once at the DOS prompt has opened type in ver, and press enter. Then come back here with that information. Then we can troubleshoot as to why you have *ahem* Windows 9.

got microsoft online, finally got them to call me back. Trying to get the information about the number for the update. Man tells me there will be a fee to pay. I ask him if I can't just have the number of the Windows 9 update. He puts me on hold and I loose connection after waiting 20 minutes for him to call me back......:( sometimes I think it would have been better if the horse and buggy days were still here

At first I thought this was crazy, but then I realized. . . Maybe Sparky is from the future.

Sparky, what is your favorite feature of Windows 9? Could you tell us a little more about it?

Please take no offense sparknyc. Just having a little fun with the concept.

Yep, mine Win9 came though Windows Update. The upgrade went super. I am thoroughly enjoying the new start menu for the desktop and being able to start directly to the desktop. The option to turn the metro part off forever is great too; I used it immediately. And MS is no longer pushing the MS login, Skything, and, actually, anything else. The coupon that came in the mail provides an offer number that allows me to add any features I want for up to three years. The new EULA is nice too; no more restrictions on how many, or whose, machines I can install on. I couldn't be happier. Go MS, Go MS, Go MS.

Actually, after MUCH investigation on my problem, to my embarrasement, I have had Win9 since 2011:( I've just been to busy to recognize what I've had. Just got use to it I suppose. But that rules out what I thought was my problem. Finally talked with Microsoft tech and I could tell by his "silence" on the other end that I was not identifying it on my update list correctly. After scrolling down REAL far, I finally saw it ( I think 9/??/ 11) WOW talk about dumb. Sorry I took up your time. Now back to my quickbooks problem:(

No problem. Welcome to our goofy forum world. And, many of us have plenty of time to waste--or we wouldn't be here. OK, that's not quite true. Helping others on forums is a type of service. And, helping/serving really isn't a waste of time.
