Doodleinator app help

Hi,

I hesitated, but finally made the leap to Windows 8. I do like being able to run apps for pages I frequent that have better apps than using the actual website. Craigslist is one example of a site that has an app which blows away using the website. I really like the options you have when using the app and don't mind paying a small fee in order to support the people who put together these excellent apps. Other apps I've found useful are for ebay, Facebook, Kayak, Twit and most of the news sites.

There's an app in particular called Doodleinator, which I find is fun to mess around with when I'm bored. It's for making those little animated flip drawings we used to do on the corner of a notepad or notebooks when I was in school. I'm sure we used the text books sometimes as well. :eek: At least it didn't really ruin them and did make for a little entertainment when you got someone else's book from an earlier year who did a doodle flip in the corner. :p

Anyway, I can't find any info or documentation on how to use this app. I've figured out the simple things, but there's some advanced features which I would like to know about as well. There's one called Picker and another called Transform for starters. Does anyone know where I might find some help with this? I've Goggled it, and this forum seemed to be the closest I could come to at least asking for help. Even the creators website is pretty useless for any instructions on use.

I'll try out that app. sounds interesting! i used to do those little flip pages as well.

alright played with it a bit. pretty cool. are you using a pen or touch? I think that'd be the best way as drawing with a mouse is not very precise or fun.

so you start off with "tap here for a new doodle"
the first page is the first frame. you start to draw things on the screen.

zoom/pan is not really for the drawing per se. it's just to move the canvas around. it doesn't change at all what you're drawing on the canvas. it's just a logistical thing.

your tools are on the left side of the screen. the right side is the context for the tool. for example, if you select pencil, the right side will change to color and size. color is the color of your pencil. size is how thick the brush or needle is so you can do thin drawings or thicker drawings.

pencil is your basic drawing too.

eraser is kind of neat in that it's not a dumb eraser like a pencil eraser. it erases by strokes. so let's say you use the pencil and make stroke 1. then you let go and then put down stroke 2. then you let go and then put down stroke 3. when you then switch to eraser and move over stroke 2, all of stroke 2 disappears but it totally leaves stroke 1 and 3 alone.

picker is just a color picker. so let's say you draw some green grass. then you draw a brown box. then you draw a yellow sun. now, let's say you also want to draw a sunflower that's the same color as the sun. so you you then tap on picker and then tap on the sun so now your pencil is the same color as the sun. then you draw the flower.

select is used to select your object or your stroke. so let's say you draw a balloon. but then you realize the balloon is too small and you want to make it bigger. you choose the select tool and then make a box over part of the balloon then you drag the transform arrows to make it bigger. when you use the select tool on an object, you'll see "transform" at the bottom. on the diagram are the transform arrows and in the context buttons on the right, you see copy. if you select copy, you'll copy the selected item that you dragged a select box around and then you can paste it.

so let's say you want to have a person walk across the screen. you create frame 1 with the guy standing there. then you tap on "insert after" to get to your next frame. then you copy that person to the next position and then you erase the person from the old position.

or let's say you draw a person. you then use a select tool and surround the person with it. then you tap on copy and then you paste him on the screen and then you drag the second person next to the first person, and now you have 2 people on the screen.

so you're drawing on the first screen and now you want to make the second screen. so you tap on "insert after". and then start drawing on the second frame. the second frame will be a copy of the first frame. you can then move the object or erase and the cool thing is you can see the position of the old object in gray underneath. so that basically helps you tell the position of the last object and the position of the first object on the same diagram.

now let's say you need a frame in-between 2 frames you already drew. so you have your "insert before" and your "insert after" buttons to help you put the frame where you want it. then when you're done, you just tap on play to play your animation. the app automatically saves your movie for you so there's no save button. then if you hit on the back button, you can see your library of movies.

a pretty neat app! I don't know if a person with a mouse is going to want to use this program. but with a tablet pad or a touch screen or a huge touchpad, I think people would have fun with this app.

Wow! Thanks dirtyvu, you really went out of your way to figure this out for me, I really appreciate that. :thumb: The creator got back to me as well and gave a couple of tips, but you really broke it down big time.

Unfortunately, I just have mouse control, but I may get a tablet soon and be able to take advantage of it that way, just need to figure out which one had the best bang for the buck?
