Windows wont boot after registry was cleaned

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.

My computer wont boot at all. I bought a key from microsoft online so I dont have the installation disc, and i didnt make a system image or repair disc. I did do a couple of back-ups though.

It began like thisÖ..I was getting an 'Error 1704' message, so I ran CleanMyPc Registry cleaner to try and resolve this issue. From this point on, I havenít been able to boot up my computer.

When I turn the computer on, it tells me that there were errors on startup and 'critical_process_died' and it starts the 'automatic repair' function. At the end of this cycle, it hasnt been fixed and i end up at the 'advanced options' screen.
When try the 'restore' function, and select any of the backups Iíve made, I am not allowed to select the drive I want and I get the message 'You must enable system protection on this drive'. - How do I enable system protection???

I then tried troubleshoot and 'refresh', and after a while i get the message 'there was a problem refreshing. No changes have been made'.
I then tried the 'reset' function which requires a repair or installation disc, which i dont have.
I have tried 'startup settings' to try and start in safe mode, but this just reboots to 'automatic repair' again and the cycle starts again..

So, i have worked through all the 'advanced options', and none seem to work for me. I do have access to elevated command prompt, this may be the only way into the computer, i just dont know how?!
Also, before I cleaned the registry I backed it up. But of course its backed up on the PC that doesnt work, so I don't know if this info is of any help.

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated

Hello thelong1, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could use the tutorial below to download a new Windows 8 ISO to use to create a bootable installation DVD/USB with.

    https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...edownload.html

Afterwards, see if you are able to do a refresh or reset with it.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

What version of CleanMyPC did you use? This kind of sounds like an issue I had with Windows 7 back in elder years where I installed 64 bit Windows and used a dated version of that registry cleaner, ran the cleaner and compactor, killed it and had to reinstall Windows.

I ALWAYS do a registry backup first when using a registry cleaner. That way, if it goes wrong, I can always restore the registry from Safe Mode (and have done). Most registry cleaners WILL prompt you to do so, and IMO it's silly not to. BTW, I use CCleaner.
    Hope this helps someone.
