    Notification Area Programs

I know how to manage the behavior of icons and notifications in Windows 8, but how do I delete programs from the list of icons and notifications (that appear on the taskbar)?

Hello Steve, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If they are old uninstalled programs that are still listed in the notification area, then you could use the tutorial below to reset the notification area to get rid of them.

    Hope this helps,

I'm afraid that did not work. Here is a screen shot of the batch file in mid-process, which looks different from the shots in the tutorial:

    Odd. Those are valid commands.

Are you having any other issues?

Try unblocking the .bat file, and running it again.

I unblocked the file (Option 1), but got the same screen after running the .bat file.

No, I am not having any other issues,

If you like, you could do it manually as shown in the Note box under step 1. You'll need to open regedit, kill explorer, delete the two registry keys at the location in the screenshot, then restart computer.

If you need more details on this, then please let me know.

Sorry, I do not see any Note under Step 1 (oh which procedure?), and yes, I would like more details. I am fairly confident, but not when it comes to editing the Registry ! Thanks, Shawn, I really appreciate your help,

Hey Shawn, I don't know exactly what I did, but I was able to get the .bat file to run properly and the programs are gone from the notifications list! Thanks so much for your help!
