How is the "Edit" side set?

Some programs have two conditions - "Open" and "Edit" - such as a .reg file. I looked in the registry and all I can find is "Open" even though the context menu has "Edit" and "Open with", how is the "Edit" side set?

    Hello rdwray,

You might see if using the free program in the tutorial below may work for you. It allows you to change the default "Edit" program.

Edit Context Menu - Change Default Program in Windows

    Hope this helps,

I found the "Edit" section in the registry, the problem is that everything is correct except when I open the context menu to do the edit and it pops up a list of "Open" programs which changes the file association for the "Open with". If I uncheck the "Use this app for all .xxx files", it does not change the association and works right; but I always get the list and the box checked.

This is the best one yet, the registry is only exporting hex code....

This thing is one big bug...

Have you tried the program above?

File Type Settings -> Context Menu -> double click on file extension -> double click on Edit (if available) command -> browse and edit to what program you want instead

I didn't download the program because he wants a donation.

I made the change in the registry manually and go it to work.

It's a 100% free program. A donation is not required, nor does the program nag you for one.

I'm happy you got it sorted though.
