    I would also suggest keeping Recovery Partition in case needed. for HP laptops, you don't need to active Recovery Partition to access HP Recovery Manager, just press F11 during POST.

    OP, I still am unclear if you can use the recovery partition using any procedure at this point. If not, then say bye bye to any useless partitions, including this one, when you redo your partition scheme--assuming you do.

    Set Recovery as active: Recovery works
    Set System Reserved as active: Recovery don't work.

    Are you still thinking of partitioning? Keeping the recovery partition working might be a good thing unless you can see no reason to every go back to Win7.
