    Windows 8 bashing!

It appears to me that too many people are approaching Windows 8 with preconceived ideas and listening to the negativity of others. Before I took the plunge, I did my research and read numerous articles on Windows 8. I prepared my computer and myself and when I upgraded I had no problems installing and using the OS.

You have two ways of working with it, via the Start (Metro) interface or the Classic Shell, so what's the problem. If you have issues you cannot resolve yourself, the Windows 8 forum is a treasure trove of hints and answers. This site has excellent moderators, tutorials and members that can help you resolve your issues and questions.

Windows 8 is by no means perfect but what else is when it's new. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones but I have no regrets on making the move.

In case your wondering, NO, I do not work for Microsoft!

You're right, a lot of users plunge into without doing any research and then complain. Heh... I guess eventually everyone will start liking it once it wears into them and their more familiar and comfortable with the OS.

I agree with your post. At first blush all of the negative stories and comments scared me about upgrading to Windows 8. However, after coming across this forum and reading the positive replies to the negative comments sort of educated me about how to use Windows 8 and what to expect from it. By the time I actually had the opportunity to play with the OS I felt like I had been using it for quite a while. I just didn't have the negative experience that others seemed to have.

I can honestly say that once I'm ready to buy a new PC in the next month or so I won't hesitate to get one with Windows 8 installed. I'm actually looking forward to it.

A breathe of fresh air! The mood has changed somewhat, on this site, however, and there is a definite improvement of attitude towards 8. I would even venture that its attitude is better, in that respect than a couple of others that I visit. One in particular, I sometimes wonder why the particular posters still even bother to post on a forum designated to something they very obviously dislike!!

On the flip side, there is also a condescension towards people who are trying to express constructive criticisms of Windows 8. It's not always a matter or love Windows 8, or hate Windows 8, but sometimes, "I like some things about Windows 8, but why is it like this...?" or "why is it not like that...?".

I think you need to look up the meaning of the word condescension (that was a good example of it

What people express is exasperation with people that keep harping on the same things and beating a dead horse. It's not constructive criticism if all you do is say the same things over and over again, particularly when it's well known how some people feel. That's just whining and complaining, and frankly, it gets old. There's nothing anyone on this forum can do about it.

And asking why didn't they.. or why did they.. is fine, except that people aren't really asking that.. they're just trying to complain in a different way. They don't actually want to know the answer.

What I don't understand is why, if you hate Windows 8 that much, do you find it needed to be on a Windows 8 forum if all you are going to do is trash the OS and trash peoples threads that like the OS.

A prime example of this trollish behavior would be SIW2, who I've seen has really nothing good to say about Windows 8 (has probably never even tried it) and has trashed numerous threads with FUD of people who like it. It's quite clear he hates Windows 8 and is pro-Seven, so I'm not sure why he is even here or why he is even part of the EF team.

Yeah, that's an expert example. I know what the word means and used it purposefully and correctly.

I do agree there's some less than rational bashing. It's not pleasant, but it's somewhat the nature of open forums. There's often bashing from all angles.

I agree. SIW2 does do a fair amount of what I'd consider "trolling", and seemingly is consistent on the fact that Windows 8 is no good. Not saying all his/her posts are incorrect or bad/tarnishing, but some of the bashing needs to cut back. +1
