Solved The Details pane - Can not modify Music's Rating and stuff

Hello! Title says everything
Win 8 Enterprise x64, non local administrator user.

I can not change music's rating or other stuff from details pane. In local administrator user I can. Should I change my account type or any help?

Also the music is at external HDD

Check that your files haven't suddenly become "Read-only".

Also try running CHKDSK to check the drive.

After I've used one of my external HDDs at TAFE, my PC claims that it is "Read-only" and it takes several CHKDSK commands to fix the problem.
Of course after CHKDSK is finished, it says that there weren't any problems.

make sure you are part of administrators group.

I'm Admin. Files are not in read-only. I run Command or Powershell inside my external HDD and do CHKDSK several times only?

You should only need to run it once (my CHKDSK has a weird problem).

You can run CHKDSK from the GUI.

1. Open File Explorer
2. Right click on the external drive
3. Choose Properties
4. Select the Tools tab

Note:
The screenshots are from Windows 7.
You may want to tick the "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" box, but be aware that option will take a long time to finish.

Thanks Brink.

No errors found. I think there might be some like, admin permissions missing because some programs can not run before I run them as admin. Any way to run explorer as admin? Maybe it fixes the problem. Built in admin has no problems.

Locate the File Explorer icon.
You may have to go to it's actual location ( C:\Windows\SysWOW64 ) if it isn't pinned to the Taskbar.
Right click and select "Run as administrator".

Have you just swapped to W8 from XP?
After XP, some programs won't run unless you elevate them, or set their shortcut properties to make them start/run at administrator level (you will get a UAC confirm box when they start).


Another option is to edit the permissions on your external HDD.

WARNING: Make sure you have a backup of the files on your external HDD in case of disaster.

Make sure your user name is in the permissions,
OR
as a last resort give the "Everyone" user name more permissions/rights (you will have to add "Everyone" it if it is missing).

How about no to way with red warning. No place for ~900GB of data. Let's say it's solved and I go to local admin to change properties.
