I didn't realize people were having trouble with it - works straight out of the box for me.

For me too. Windows Update installed the drivers for my HD6870 on first boot and Aero is working :)

That looks like Aero to me.

Why is your desktop black?

Sorry I should have made myself clearer, I mean't transparent, it won't let me change the background picture to anything else.
I have tired windows update but it says my system is up-to-date

It is set like that.

You have to do a workround.

It's nothing to do with your drivers.

You should get a better visual effect if you can use the personalization.

Might get a chance to look at an easy way for you to do that.

Thank you so much, it definitely looks alot better than a black screen, any idea on how to get transparent?

Don't know why you are getting that - works fine for me.

You have the Aero theme - but no transparency - may be due to laptop video card.

You could try going to devmgr, then rt click your card, browse to your win 7 partition driverstore - see if it will pick up the driver from there.

I don't know weather it is something to do with my graphics card, :(

Did you try rt clicking the video card in device manegr .update driver.Browse, then browse to your win 7 partition?

It may load the drivers that way.

Second Question - can you now change the desktop background?
If you can, does it stick after logoff and on again.?

I can now change the background and it sticks when I logoff, I'm searching my Windows partition for the drivers at the moment,
I don't think it can find my graphics card at all, The first screenshot is from windows 8 and the second one is from Windows 7.

EDIT: It didn't find anything in the Windows 7 partition for the drivers
