    No, you click the Backup, select system backup, then select the external HDD as the destination and follow the on screen instructions.
    If in future, something goes wrong, you can recover from this image ( second image in the link I posted).

    There are many apps out there that will create a .iso of the disc. You could also make a copy of the disc to use, and put the original somewhere safe, in a case, on a shelf, for example. The media isn't what needs to be protected and saved, to be honest. The key is what you paid for and what's important.

    If you do a straight copy from your DVD to the Hard Disk and later on burn it to the DVD, the DVD will not boot

    The best way to save an exact copy of your DVD is to create one single BOOTABLE ISO file as if you download from Microsoft site.

    You can use Magic ISO or Ultra ISO or any software that is capable to create a BOOTABLE ISO.

    There is a trial Win ISO from this website: WinISO Maker

    After install, open Win ISO and from file Menu:
    1. File->Open CD/DVD/BD Drive
    2. click on Bootable->Extract Boot Image <=== save it to desktop
    3. click on Bootable->Set Boot Image <==== load same file from step 2
    4. Save it to your Hard Disk as an ISO
    5. Done.

    To Create a bootable DVD, run Win ISO, open the ISO file then put in a blank DVD and burn, You'll have an exact copy of your original DVD

    OR you could also create a bootable USB using this ISO file. The instruction is posted somewhere in this forum.
