I'll answer my own question. Because some people like to try new things for the sake of trying them, other people are victims of marketing hype, and the rest are simply forced into the decision.
So you're saying the average person would rather move to a totally different OS in one step, where *EVERYTHING* is different, rather than do so in small, manageable steps where they can learn pieces over time?

    Right.

Try to give Windows 8 a chance, let it grow on you, like a fungus. It's not that bad once you get used to it. If you were stuck in a desert island with nothing but Windows 8 and an internet connection for a month, you'd grow accustomed to it and probably come to like some parts of it. It's not 100% bad.

Besides, you already have Windows 7 to work as a traditional OS, what do you want? Windows 7 II? Windows 8 is an experiment, and if you think about it, it makes sense to do things the way Microsoft does. They alternate between "good" OSs like Win7, XP, 95 and "experimental or crazy" OSs like Vista, ME, and Win8. The next one will probably be a fix for all of the issues with 8 and won't rock the boat too much. Then Windows 10 will come around and it will be a giant brilliant mess of a fun train wreck like Windows 8.

And people who try new things aren't sheep, we're just not quite as afraid of change and stuck in our ways as you ;-). Businesses like Microsoft need to innovate to stay alive, and innovation is sometimes a messy process. If you come to hate PCs too much, you can always switch to crApple.

bluice32▬▬ In the original msg #1 WilliamStark was requesting help for a specific problem. That's what members come here for.
He didn't mention his experience or being disgruntled with 8. He just described a hiccup and asked for help diagnosing the cause & finding the cure.

You made 3 posts on this thread alone and said nothing to help his situation.
Just vented your personal frustrations with 8 or with helping people. Here's your 3 counterproductive posts.
1-Windows 8 makes no sense for desktop-only users.
If you want to ignore metro, just pony up the 100 bucks and buy Windows 7.
2-Metro is not fully integrated into all aspects of the computer. You are FORCED to use both metro and the desktop, even if you like one UI over the other.
Windows 8 is not ready for prime-time. It's the dictionary definition of half-baked.
3-Exactly. Why would the average person want to futz around with a work-in-progress OS when there's a fully mature and fully realized operating system that functions perfectly for everyday use? (Windows 7)
I'll answer my own question. Because some people like to try new things for the sake of trying them, other people are victims of marketing hype, and the rest are simply forced into the decision.

Thanks pcRat! I don't suppose you know what might be causing my mouse movement jumps to Metro IE issue? Setting all internet files to open in IE desktop stops it, but I would like the option to be able to use the metro IE if I want to. I'd rather have an option to disable that particular mouse action.

WilliamStark▬ I agree 125% but I lost my cool. I wish I had more suggestions for you but, I don't have a laptop to try simulating.
I wasn't even going to get 8 for 2 reasons. a} can't afford it b} afraid it would be another Vista
A} my brother mailed me this PC with installed B} I still think 8 is a stepping stone for 9 BUT this time MS made it a lot smoother with less bugs
C} I'm going to upgrade my 7 to 8 while it only costs $40. No going back now!

Be sure to do it in a room with no blunt instruments, it may take a day or two to get used to Win 8. I don't want to minimize the learning curve. But once you get the hang of it and use it for work it's pretty good. The performance increase after its all set up is the best part.

WilliamStark- hopefully another member will be more helpful finding the remedy.
The only hiccup I've really had on mine was when I put a Shutdown tile in upper left corner. It caused the pc to shut down whenever I pressed the Enter key without being in an app.

I had some trouble figuring out the menus, like when you enter an app, the side menu becomes that app's particular side menu. Same for the bottom menu. So if you're wondering where all the settings are for your apps that's where they are lol.

Internet Explorer Metro App in Browsers & Mail
So, when I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate, I usually don't use IE. But I went to my local Microsoft Store, I used the new Windows 8 IE app and I loved it. There is one thing though, on my Laptop, IE only runs the Desktop version, not the app. I hate the look of the desktop...
