You might double check your mouse button settings to see if one of them may be triggering the Charms bar.

I am also new to Win8 and I am having the same problem. It happens when I move my finger from right to left over the mouse. It doesn't always happen when I move my finger from right to left, but something I am doing does seem to trigger the toolbar with the charms instead of moving the mouse.

I would like to just turn it off. If I want to trigger the charms, I can use one of the many other methods. I have gone through the mouse menus and I can't seem to find any way to shut it off.

If anyone knows how to shut this feature off, please help!!!

Where would i go and click to check that? Im new to
Win.8 and.it is foreign to me

It depends on what brand and model of mouse you have.

You may be able to open the Control Panel (icons view), click on Mouse icon, then look at the last tab to see if it's something like "SetPoint Settings" (this will vary per brand) below.

I should have been more specific... I have a Synaptics touchpad on a Lenovo laptop. Here is the screen where I would think I should be able to turn off this feature, but it must be located somewhere else as I have tried all of these options to get it to stop bringing up the charms with the mouse.mouse snip.PNG

I moved the desktop tile to the top left and there is no change. I also noticed that if I am on the screen with the tiles and I swipe the mouse from left to right, sometimes it will switch back to the desktop. As I have been trying to figure this out tonight, it seems like if I start with my finger too far to one side of the touchpad, it tries to switch between the desktop and the tiles.

FreedomLover,

On my laptop, it was the "Enable Edge Swipes" setting that was responsible.

I'm using Synaptics 16.2.21 driver version below.

FreedomLover ▬ I was looking at photo in first post. It looks like the very last checkmark was causing your problem.

Why don't you set the mouse to turn off ALL gestures like me?

I would have thought this computer would have the latest version. I just bought it the week of Thanksgiving.

pcrat - I tried that and it must do something else because it was still doing that.

Mrshowdown - I may do that if this keeps bringing up the start menu. I do like the scroll function though for when I am on a web page and can scroll the page by touching the pad on the far right and scrolling up or down, so I don't want to turn it ALL off! :D
