I was trying to change the permissions on theme1.theme and got the "Unable to save permission changes on theme1.theme" "Access is denied". What is the solution? thanks....
I found that I could not take control as administrator but only as user????
Got another question on this one and I have noticed it a couple of times and it just happened. path "C:\Windows\SystemData"; I took ownership it disappeared and I had to find it in another location. I had a driver file yesterday that disappeared and I haven't found it yet; luckily it wasn't important because I used a new driver.
I've followed the thread linked but still can't take ownership of a registry folder. I don't know if I'm adding the wrong thing as it only shows my email address and not my username in the 'Name' column so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?
I don't understand why the main account in Windows 8.1 does not allow you to be permanently admin and you have to keep switching in and out of having admin permissions anyway?? I'm the main user and the admin of my machine so why do I have to take ownership and regularly have to apply administrator permissions in order to carry out some tasks (feeling mystified!)?
The simple way to do this:
Run Regedit
Select folder > Right click > Select Permissions
Under "Security" press "Add" and Enter "Everyone" and click "Ok"
Under "Permissions for ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" click "Advanced"
At the top you will see "Owner: xxx Change"; click "Change".
Enter "Everyone" and click "Ok" and you should see "Owner: Everyone" at the top; click "Ok" again.
You should be back at "Permissions for ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES"; click the top box "Full Control"; click "Ok" to close the dialog and you should have full control of the folder.
Thank you, thank you. I have tried every other possible trick and hack and nothing changed the permissions until I found this. All my woes started after upgrading from win7 to win10, this was the last and I've been messing with this for the past two days.
