I have a task called 'Photos' whose Details includes 'microsoft.windowsphotos...".

I can't figure out what this task is, by googling for it.

How can I find out what this task is an, if it's not an essential task, disable it from starting up (unless I invoke it)? I don't see this tasks/program in the Task Manager Startup list.

Thanks.

I think it's the metro photos app.
Do you view your photos in the default metro app or in windows picture viewer?

The screen res sucks for a display this size...
Any process that starts with "microsoft." is a metro app. The name after seems pretty straight forward, it's the photo viewer.

Thanks, guys.

So, any idea how I can prevent it from running at startup? I don't see a way....

Will1982, you asked what app I use to view photos. Actually, this is a new PC and I haven't viewed any photos yet, so I'm not sure which app I'd want to use.

Right-click the tile you want to 1. Unpin 2. Uninstall options are at bottom of screen after right-click

pcRat, when you say 'uninstall', is that as in 'uninstall from windows, so the app is not available'?

What I'm looking for is to prevent it from running at startup, although I don't see an entry for the photo app in the Task Manager Startup list.

If it is a live tile (starts when computer does) there will also be an option to Turn live tile off.
Unpinning it does what it says. If you uninstall it, you can get it back later from the Store. Don't uninstall the Store.

You can also drag tiles to the right out of sight. Right-click on large ones to make smaller.
