Again man, thanks so much for you help. Merry Christmas to you also, have a safe one!

I got Windows 8 installed on my Data D:/ drive, and I'm trying to recover the partition, it's 330GB of unallocated space but I know everything is there...

Yeah man. Tried Ubuntu, and I've got no use... I tried Zorin as well, considering I've got that on my Linux NetBook, but no luck.

I'm using a utility on Windows 8 that I downloaded to access the drive, but the files are split up so I need something else. EaseUS was going to take 41 hours... :/

    hi Ceejay,

why not just reinstall Win 8 and reinstall the programs. You have your data on a second drive or partition, so that can be left alone.

If not.....then you are in trouble.

this will be the fastest solution for you.

OK, here is an incredibly unlikely-to-work solution. Do you have a friend with a Mac? You will need firewire ports on both computers (and a cable ). Or, if the Mac has Thunderbolt, but no firewire, then you'll need a thunderbolt to firewire cable. It also is possible that you would need a firewire 800 to firewire 400 cable. Anyway, you could try putting your computer into firewire target disk mode for access to its hard drive. I sometime used to be able to get this approach to work with some Win machines under Vista (haven't tried since Win7 and Win8 came out). Obviously, it is very unlikely to work, in general, with Win8. It's easy to find instructions for using "firewire target disk mode." But, if you can't find, the post back. I am on a tight Xmas schedule today--flying across the country.

Luckily, MiniTool Power Data Recovery picked up EVERYTHING, and is ripping the files off the lost partition and transferring them to my external now. Everything is there
