    Windows 8 shut down issue

Just got a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8 to replace my 10 year old Lenovo. I cannot turn the thing off. No matter what I do, when I open the lid, it comes back on like it was in the sleep mode. Help!

How are you trying to shut down? Use (e.g.,) Windows key+i to get to the Power button--which allows shut down.

I go thru the normal (I assume) procedure. Go to power, click on SHUT DOWN, computer goes thru what looks like a shut down , little red led by keyboard blinks, then goes out. Close lid. Wait a few. Open lid. Computer comes back on. I went in and changed the default setting for the power for the default to be shut down. Nothing will turn it off. Sort of like a vampire, it just won't die.

Hello exnarc, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Some folks have reported issues with shutting down when Fast Startup is turned on. You might see if turning off Fast Startup may help.

Shawn, THANK YOU! I killed the Fast Start Up, and now it behaves like a real, not undead, computer. Thank you very much. It's FIXED!
