    OK so I'm up an running on win 8

    but know DVD play back even with media player 12 ?????

    If you are running Win8 Pro, then you can get on free Windows Media Center--which will allow you to play DVD's.

    Or you can install VLC. That also works fine. You will have to go into the settings to enable persistent fullscreen mode, and skins don't work with fullscreen mode so it'll look like crap.

    There is a new Metro version VLC & desk top version both of witch
    play dvd’s. as Media Center is only free till end of January then pay for it.

    The Metro version only exists as a developer prototype.

    I am currently using (vlc-2.0.4-win64) for the desk top as I prefer using it than
    windows media player. I only read about Metro version on 8 forum yesterday
    I must have missed something.

    It doesn't exist. They're working on it, but it's not functional.

    I lucked into my machine coming with cyberlink powerdvd pre-installed by my computer's manufacturer(sony). plays alot smoother than vlc.

    If you obtain music and video from all aspects of the net
    You will find (sony) DRM locks some of them up…
