    Microsoft in windows 8, Media player dose not play DVD but did with previous win 7 media player
    VLC media player dose play DVDs you have to log on to the DVD go to folder (VIDEO_TS)
    Double click file (VIDEO_TS.IFO) it will play DVD…

    Maybe I should have clarified that I was talking about Windows Media Player/Win8, but playing DVD's in Win8 is OP's topic.

    You have to BUY windows (media center) to get media player to run DVDs
    VLC is free..

    When adding Media Center pack, it only adds the WMC + DVD Codec for WMC, not WMP.
    But there is a limited time offer to get WMC Pack for Windows 8 for free, but the offer ends and the keys must be activated before 31 January 2013.

    I can now play DVD's after downloading free for a bit Media Center

    but i noticed my product key has changed ? could i use this in the future if needed to reinstall for any reason and get media center ....... even after u have to pay for it ????

    unfortunately my sound card wont seem to work in win 8 see new thread soon lol

    Cool. Not sure about the reinstall issue. You can get one product key per email address though. So, you could get another and use it for a reinstall.
