How send files from folder to DVD writer in windows 8

In Win 7 it was easy to send a file(s) to E:\ or F:\ drives, both DVD writers (F: is Blu-ray). I am having a problem doing the same action in Windows 8. That is all I require at this stage no ISO etc. I do that with a separate program and burning files too. I am sure it can be done, with some arcane method or a few simple moves?

    Hello dingoden,

You should be able to do either action below to burn files/folders to a DVD.

    1. Select files/folders, right click on them, and click on Send to -> DVD drive.
    2. Select files/folders, click on Share tab on ribbon, and click on Burn to disc.
    3. Select files/folders, click on Home tab on ribbon, click on Copy to or Move to, click on Choose location, and select your DVD drive.
    4. Use "Copy to Folder" or "Move to Folder" context menu item.

    Hope this helps,

Odd, it would give that for F when you sent them to E.

As a test, use the tutorial below to change the drive letters for both E and F to a letter that hasn't been used before, then see how Send to the DVD works.

    DriveL Letter Change

Hi Brink, this is more confusing than getting around Huston Intl Airport! We got lost there too. OK got to "change drive letters "(a bit different to your instructions) Maybe they are Win 7(?). I did a right click in disk management and followed the choices. Anyway I can't see if I can change E & F to say X & Y for the test? A bit (a lot) apprehensive to change what I can't and don't know)

No problem. You're in the correct settings, but would just need to click on the drop down arrow where G is in your screenshot, then select another letter to assign to it and click on OK.

    Copying files to DVD writer

    Thanks Brink,

I know it is the final day (here) of the Mayan calendar, but I think I will leave well alone and see if there is a reason why Windows 8 does not recognize the DVD writer on E:\ As I say it is not important. I get around it with the use of other programs. Who knows some other user may have had the same problem and rectified it.

Merry Christmas to you and all readers.
