complainers are always more vocal than supporters in any medium. that's just the way it is. when someone complains, they want anyone and everyone to hear them. people who like it just go about their business.

    Quick question:
How can I get shortcuts on the desktop.
Like I have outlook pinned to the taskbar but how can I get it like under "My Computer"
With windows 7 all I did was drag it from start menu

    Something like this...
Right click on the Outlook tile on Start or in All Apps (you will need to right click anywhere on the Start Screen and then hit All apps on the bottom of the command bar) and you will see something that says Open file location. Click that.

Then it will open a File Explorer window, which will allow you to drag the shortcut to the Desktop.

    Thanks it worked
I take it you cant do it for Internet Explorer because it just opens the Metro

You can actually, you can also make the IE tile on the Start Screen to just open on the Desktop.

This is done by going to the Start Screen, and typing in internet options then select the Settings filter. Open that, and hit the Programs tab. Then switch IE's defaults to the Desktop.

Or, you can head over to the Program Files folder in the C drive, then go to Internet Explorer. Find the iexplore icon, then drag to the Desktop and rename it.

What Coke shows above would work and here's another way and I think it's a little faster:
    Just go to: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

This is where all the links for everything installed in your PC which applications such as
Start8, Classic shell etc... use for the Start Menu. Double click the folder for outlook which is under Microsoft Office 2013,
right click to pin to Start/Taskbar or right click and hold then drag it to desktop to create shortcut.

Sorry for all the questions. I have another one to ask.
When ever I boot my computer it automatically log on to an account called "Other" then fails.
I looked in control panel and I don't have any other users accounts created it should be just me. How do I get it to log into my account only??

So, while not more steps it more time consuming...I found it utterly annoying, distracting and it made me a bit angry. Am I being irrational?. Yes. But it's honestly how I feel. I know I am not alone. Had this convo with quite a number of people at work.
This is simply not true. It takes no more time to open the start page than it does the start menu. Both have nice fade-in animations that take 1/4 of a second to perform, but they can be disabled (and talk about "jerking then"). It takes no more time to type the letters, and you can press enter.. there is no need to "click" it.

This is part of your problem with Windows 8. You "perceive" that it takes more time to do things, but if you were to measure it, you would find the time is more or less the same. It literally takes me less than half a second to launch the snipping tool using the start page.

My phone auto corrected on me. I meant to say it wasn't more steps OR any more time consuming...it is simply annoying to me. I really just don't like flipping back and forth between the radically different looking screens. It's almost an irrational complaint...but I just don't like it.
