    Start Screen issue

I have been running Win 8 for a week or so.

Today an update was downloaded and I chose to 'update and restart'.

When the PC rebooted after the update, there were only 4 tiles on the Start screen - Desktop, IE, Explorer and Store. ALL the other tiles (those created at install time as well as those added by subsequently installed apps) have gone.

Has anyone any ideas why this may have happened?

Do you have any third party start menu kind of apps installed?

No I don't have any 3rd Party Start Menu Apps - or any other Win 8 Hacks.
The only thing I did between re-boots is restarted with updates.

Suggest that you run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt to ensure you don't have any corrupted system files. I f it does not fix, run system restore.

Two questions about Windows 8.1: 1) When the computer starts up, the first screen displayed is a “blocked screen”, an image, from which I proceed by pressing the space bar. What’s the purpose of this step (other than delaying the start up process)? I don’t really grasp that, nor find it...
