'SendTo' menu empty, despite 'shell:sendto' having items

I have been using Win 8 for a month now, and just noticed this. I don't know if it has always been like this, happened suddenly, or after a specific install/uninstall etc.
Essentially, I have no info to help diagnosis - only the problem.

My 'Send To' menu list is always empty (well - there appears to be a single 'empty' item, which does nothing when you click it). See screen shot below:

However, checking my extensions by running "shell:sendto", I can see that all the usual items are accounted for:

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Hello SC, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check in regedit at the locations below to see if they are the exact same for you. This is the GUID for the Send To menu. If not, then this could be the issue, and we'll go from there.

    Thanks for the welcome.
I checked the registry as you have suggested and mine appears identical.
Looking at my 'SendTo' menu now: I see one single item (no idea why or what changed - I haven't even rebooted since my first post). I did however install some other software which hooks itself into the Windows context menu (not sure if that has had an impact).

It is consistent in that it doesn't matter which file/folder I use the context menu against.
I'll try to see if a reboot helps and update this.

    Thanks.

OK - A reboot appears to 'solve' the issue - but I trust it will reoccur. I haven't done anything interesting on the laptop today besides a little web browsing and some email checking (up until the time I noticed the issue).
I have done some installs after that time.

Frustrating though (it may make it harder to get to the bottom of it).

    Normal service restored:

I won't mark the thread as 'Solved' just yet. I'll keep an eye out for the issue now I know what to expect.
    Thanks.

Hallo, I experiment the same identical problem.
I've checked the register and every key is ok, but several reboot didn't change the problem: the sendTo menu remains empty, despite the correspondent folder isn't.
I'm sure that till some days ago the menu wasn't empty, but since I only received ad Update from Windows Update and installed some simple programs, like VLC Reader. I have no idea if there could be a correlation.
Have you kindly any other suggestion?
    thanks

Hello lonogbardo, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated to when it was working may help.

If not, then you may need to refresh Windows 8.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hi all,

I had the exact same problem. The registers are as described above and the shell:sendto is not empty. After tweaking the SendTo folder and trying to remove the items in it, I realized that every time I try to delete or move the "Bluetooth Device" the File Explorer freezes. The solution to me was to delete the Bluetooth Device from the command line by "C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo>del Bluetooth.SendToBluetooth" command.
The "Send to" context menu appeared immediately after I removed the defective shortcut. I hope this will help.

    Cheers!

    Hi,
I realize this is an old topic, but after just getting the latest update of Windows 10, I was facing the same problem. This post was the only thing that helped. It was so frustrating not being able to figure this out! Thank you so much!!

I just registered to thank @pargevgh for sharing his solution. I as well as @aod had this problem with the latest update of Windows 10 and I couldn't figure out what was causing it (scanning for windows problems, registry hacks, you name it).

After mentioning the bluetooth device which for a strange reason there were two in the SendTo folder I then deleted the seemingly incorrect one and after just removing it, the SendTo menu worked as before! I personally could just hit delete rather than doing it via the command prompt but either way thank you a bunch for sharing the solution!
