type on the start screen, Change what power buttons do,...go into the power settings and uncheck the Fast Startup option and save. You may have to use link at top to change settings that are grayed and unavailable.

It's still under warranty, return it or make whoever you bought it from fix it. A new computer should not freeze.

Have you made any significant changes to the computer? What were they? Did you install updates for example? Did the computer work properly for any significant period of time between your first use of it and when it started misbehaving? If the answer especially to the last question is yes, then you may be able to get your computer to work properly again by doing a system restore. But, a system restore will be impossible if you have not set the computer to automatically make restore points or created an appropriate restore point yourself. Your computer also may have a restore partition that will allow you to take it back to factory-fresh condition. And, by any chance did your computer come with an installation DVD?

If I understand correctly, users of the original Windows 8 were forced to upgrade to 8.1 if they wanted to continue receiving updates. I worry that if Windows 9 is a runaway success (but I end up preferring Windows 8.1), that I'll be forced to likewise upgrade to continue getting my system...
