I'm using Classic Shell to navigate and I go to the Apps folder. I have tons of apps installed it seams, Weather, Video, Travel, netflix etc.. i don't need any of these and wish to completely remove them from my system. I suspect i should be able to do this from Programs and Features and turning windows features on and off but I don't know where these apps reside.. I can't seem to be able to find any of them in the Windows features area. I also want to uninstall any unneeded apps that show up in the metro start page thing. Not just disable them, or unpin them.. I don't want them on my system at all.

Ideas?

Right click on the app in your start page and choose Uninstall. I don't know if this functionality is there in Classic Shell or not, since I don't use it.

Thanks. Er.. I guess I should have explored that darn metro thing better. No, I can't get those options from Classic Shell.

Doesn't Classic Shell let you jump back to the Modern Screen then back to Classic Shell? Thought that was one of the advantages of Classic over some of the other Start Menu apps.

One may be able to configure it to do that in settings, i don't know. Left clicking on the clssic shell start orb just brings up a normal start menu. Classic shell does let you go to the desktop on startup bypassing the metro start page. Classic shell really does not need to have an easy way to switch between desktop and metro start screen built in as this is easily enough done by putting the mouse in the upper right corner and choosing the metro start screen ( I call it metro, I know they have some other name for it now) Or you can to it by going to the bottom left corner and bringing up the windows desktop sidebar thing. ( hard to get this to pop up sometimes, you need to plau with your mouse driving it into the corner and going up and down to side margin and it only seems to work when the full desktop is showing)

I'm using Start8 and I can click the "Windows" key to bounce back and forth between Metro and Desktop.

In Classic Shell, they may have something similar. But if not, I would think they'd give you access to the control panel and you could uninstall from there?

One thing I noticed about uninstalling programs from the metro start page thing is it's not fully integrated into windows like it should be. You can remove an app from Programs and Features and the metro start page thing wont know this - and still show a shortcut to the program and give you an option to uninstall the program. Clicking this uninstall opens Programs and features - and of course the program isn't there.

You have to search your whole system for any web links/shortcuts or any other type of references to the program.. and remove them before the metro start page will "get it" and know the app has been removed. This is extremely time consuming and annoying.

Snapfish is one such example of this I ran into.

This sounds like a flaw in Snapfish's uninstaller, which is not surprising given that Snapfish is notorious for crapware that doesn't correctly uninstall.

You can Shift+click or Shift+winkey to go to Metro from the desktop. Configure it as you want in Classic Shell settings. :) Built-in apps can only be uninstalled using the cmd line DISM.exe.

I do the testing and give feedback on User Experience and ideas for Classic Shell.
With Classic Shell, if you're a mouse user, all you have to do is move the mouse to the top of the screen (like with the Modern interface) and when the hand appears, pull the desktop down and the Modern interface appears.
