I don't believe so. Why is it that you can only have two apps open at any one time and the positioning is limited to effectively side by side, with varying degrees of width? Why can't you have more apps open and you decide how they are displayed, as you can do with the desktop, either in Windows 7 or 8? Why can't you move those apps then around on as many screens as you have and use them at the size that you've chosen?

The Modern interface is effectively a mobile phone interface, with the flexibility (or lack of) that it offers. I can understand Microsoft trying to unify the OS experience between devices, but why hobble everything to the device with smallest screen size? If that flexibility had been provided, the complaints about the Modern interface would be moot.

Though some apps do go into some mini-mode when relegated to the narrow side, it's not always enough. An option to resize to half the screen would be nice.

Why would Microsoft wait until Windows 9 to introduce such basic and desirable features? You only get one chance to make a first impression and Windows 8 should have slam dunked the opposition with this one, yet they apparently hesitated.

Well, they may change things up with Blue, which will be out well before a 9, I assume.

Thank you Ray8 I agree with you 100% Windows 7 is fine but Window 8 is a complete downgrade except for the kernel.

The ui needs to be on the desktop not in a full screen window all by it self that
you constantly have to be switching to ( on a desktop or laptop).
So Windows 8 needs to be called Window 8.

Guys think about it... WHY would ALL of these Windows 8 forums be up and running? To add to that, wouldn't you think some nice program that will fix our complaints be GREAT? Would then sort of make Windows8 a PLUS! don't you think? *hint* *hint*

Listen. I agree, Windows 8 is not perfect. And there are some missteps, but over all, they are not the end of the world.
Yes, Apps should run like normal Desktop Software and have re-sizable windows to provide true Multi-Tasking abilities.

Had they done that, i believe that Windows 8 would be an Android/Apple Killer. That's true.

But as with Vista, MS are taking a new approach to things. This is not a bad thing.
Live Tiles are great. Among other things.

I think too many people take the absolute Extreme side of things.

Instead of looking at a lot of the positives, they are just writing everything off all because they don't like the GUI,, that's well......

MS doens't want to lose the future to the likes of Apple and Android. So they are trying aomething new,, I think it's a great direction that needs quite a bit of tweaking. I think we will see those get fixed.

too late in my opinion, they should be working to add this now, not a year from now.

microsoft know fine well the metro ui is taking a huge amount of flak from users(just look at what they did...sacked the guy that forced the issue) but is all that abuse really focused to the problem they have with it? probably not.

it was only after thinking about it for some time that i came to the conclusion it wasn't metro i hated but the sheer lack of thought and flexibility that microsoft left out.

    i don't mind the tiles/colours/layout.

as someone else points out you get one chance to grab people and they missed the mark, through lack of function instead of how it looks.

A customer came into my shop today trying desperatly to find a laptop that came shipped with windows 7 that met the spec he wanted, we struggled to find one. he gave me 20 min to show him around windows 8 and sell it to him for his workstation as soon as it came to the multiscreen discussion and how he likes to work windows 8 had no chance, he asked all the right questions anyone should and windows 8's metro ui can not do what he wanted.

he was sold easily on the rest of the o/s but not metro's lack of multiscreen support, and since i have these discussions here with all of you i knew how it would turn out.

sold him windows 7 with his windows 8 loaded laptop.

As title really. What are the chances of Windows 8 being to Windows 7 what Vista was to XP? Everyone seems to be very happy with Windows 7 so do you not think that Windows 8 will flop and everyone will just keep with 7?
