Why is this lost on so many people. How about a desktop app with store app companion.
You know, all it takes is for there to be a demand and somone will create it and sell it.

Why must we assume that they can only be store apps?
is that what the masses have been relegated to, only thinking in relative spaces of a microcosm perpetuated by the likes of cell phones in general, ipads and androids?

Where are the discussions about these things?

For the Start GUI to stop people in their tracks like this and refuse to research further possibilities beyond that.... Well, what does that really say?

The Start GUI isn't stopping people in their tracks, there are many options available to bring back the traditional start menu in the main desktop. The discussion is about the fact that Microsoft removed that option and people have to explore alternative options.

I have tried the Modern interface many times and it has all of my main programs pinned there with all the social bumpf removed. But it's a pain in the rear to have to keep going back to icon mania when I want to open another program, when it's easier to do so from start menu in the desktop.

It's all about form, fit and function; the Modern interface is not fulfilling that requirement on a desktop, at least for many judging by comments on this forum. It's not because people are Luddites, it's because there are valid reasons for preferring a system that is functional and effective.

I think the biggest problem that Windows 8 is going to run into is how well received and relevant Windows 7 is.

The biggest feature I see from Windows 8 is confusion.

The biggest problem is lots of people have Windows7.They have had it for years, it is setup the way they want it.They install windows8 and they have to set it all up and mess around. All that for clicking on an icon or the startbar to play the game that they have been looking forward to.You gotta remember that not everyone who owns a computer cares about the operating system as long as it plays the games or gets them on Facebook.
Also there are so many negative reviews, whether deserved or not, that people won`t see the point of spending 40 to upgrade.

Then why are you here? Why are you talking about Windows 8? By your own admission you don't want or need it. So why the need to keep telling people how much you don't want or need it?

Are you suggesting that people are not allowed to provide an opinion about Windows 8 if they find issues with it? All comment must only be in praise of Windows 8? I thought that was only a rule on Apple forums?

Where does it say i do not want it or need it? I am simply saying why people won`t buy it, not that i don`t want it.You are so focused on jumping on anyone who has anything bad to say about windows8, you don`t read it through, then invent what people say. People do not come on to forums all the time. They read things like this.

Now whether you disagree with it or not, that is what people read. That puts them off.Read the reviews on Amazon. It makes no difference if they are right, they are peoples opinions, whether right or wrong.People read it.
You always berate peoples opinions for not being fact, but present your own opinions as fact

So that he can be a part of the discussion regarding the latest OS from Windows.

Is there a rule here that you have to speak approvingly of Windows 8 or you are not welcome here? Is he going to get banned? Do you have any advice that might help him appreciate Windows 8? Maybe he doesn't know as much about the OS as you do. You should look at this as an opportunity. I think you take others opinions too personally and should instead understand that there are different points of view regarding Windows 8.

Why the strawman? You know damn well that's not what i'm suggesting. I asked why he feels the compulsion to incessantly comment on something he claims to not care about. It's a simple question really, and I'm in no way saying anyone can't or shouldn't provide their opinion on anything. I'm asking WHY the need to incessantly provide that opinion, over and over and over again, when he claims that it's something he doesn't want or need.

It would be like me going to a quilting store and yammering on and on with the ladies about how much I don't want or need a quilt. They would likewise be quite confused as to why I was there.

Again Mystere, where does it say i do not want or need it? Can you show me where i posted that, or are you not reading posts properly and interpreting it as you see fit?

As title really. What are the chances of Windows 8 being to Windows 7 what Vista was to XP? Everyone seems to be very happy with Windows 7 so do you not think that Windows 8 will flop and everyone will just keep with 7?
