I'm sorry, you are clearly all americans so you don't understand irony! What I meant was it is a product that no one wants so you couldn't give it away!!! That's why it too expensive. Because in it's present form it has no value!
Dump the Metro and it's good OS.

anyone that says Windows 8 is more expensive than any other Windows has never actually bought Windows before.
Intellectually challenged. It is a construct known as irony. Look it up!

Ironic indeed, considering that 40 million Windows 8 licences were sold in four week vs 60 million Windows 7 licences sold in 10 weeks (under the same circumstances). Even more ironic when noting how old XP was and how poorly received Vista was, and how well regarded Windows 7 is at the moment. Yet no one wants Windows 8?

I believe there are about 15 m installed copies.

That's pretty good. Just about any other product would be pleased to sell that amount.

Not so sure with this one.

If we take that as one month - given the massive launch, the pre Xmas season, and the give away price - I wonder how many will be sold per month in the new year?

No point in comparing it to win7 - whole different thing.

There are more devices now - the market is much bigger.

The point about Windows 7 vs Windows 8 is that Windows 7 is very highly regarded and still pretty much in its youth, so Windows 8 is not going to get the traction that Windows 7 had when it replaced XP/Vista. Also, Windows 7 works fine on all applicable devices and though it may not have the full multi-touch capabilities of a dedicated Windows 8 device, it works quite well on touch devices.

Windows 7 is not in its youth. It was released in 2009. This is 2012.

Windows has typically had a 3 year window before the next release. The only reason Windows XP hung around so long was they had to scrap the succeeding OS project because they knew they weren't going to be able to accomplish their goals in time, and had to start over. Which eventually became Windows Vista. Microsoft did not want Windows XP to be out there that long without a successor.

In corporate timescales, Windows 7 is still in its youth; many organisations are only just converting to Windows 7 from XP and will remain with Windows 7 for a long time to come. Windows XP received a death reprieve only because of corporate concerns. Many consumers will similarly remain with Windows 7, so Windows 7 is still in its youth.

But if the only newer alternative is Windows 8...i would just as soon stay with the older more mature product.

Hi there. I'd advise people NOT to buy Nero 2014 for their video editing program -- While it has lots of nice features I'm amazed that it does NOT enable you to add Subtitles. It's amazing when Free programs like Handbrake do and a professional so called polished program omits this really basic...
