Windows 8 -- Trades description act Misnomer !!

    Hi there
as far as I can see some parts of Windows 8 could technically be breaking "Trades description acts" as applied in various countries.

True the desktop functions as "Traditional Windows" but what's "Windowed" in the Metro apps -- you can't re-size or have more than one open and viewable concurrently it would appear - hence the name "Windows" is WRONG in this case.

I'm sure some smart lawyer might have a bit of fun with this.

    Cheers

Have a look at "Windows 1" and then metro.....

It stacked full screen apps/programs that you could switch between.

And windows is a trademark name for a range of OS products (all with differences) & should not be confused with the OS descriptions at the point of sale ( which is what the TDA covers.)

We get it, you dislike Windows 8. However, there is no need to post mistruths. You can have two Modern UI apps on screen at the same time.

Apart from all the technical reasons why you're pulling things out of your nether region, there's one important thing to remember.

"Windows" is a trademark. Not a description. It could be called bubble gum and it wouldn't matter, regarding any kind of law you're talking about.

This is nothing! I bought a copy of something called 'Mountain Lion' only to find there was no such animal in the box.

Wrong, like many of us, Jimbo dislike certain parts of it, not the same at all. We are not believer of " Microsoft can't do wrong "

What about snapping? Snap two "windows" on one screen. What about the desktop portal? One can open as many "windows" as one always has been able to. It's still "Windows" IMO.

    That's funny.

    Jimbo was being funny, too.

    Hi there
switching BETWEEN full screen apps is EXACTLY the problem I have issues with -- to me these applications should be visible on THE SAME SCREEN as windowed applications just like Windows apps have been -- even as far back as Windows 3.1

Mobile phone and tablet apps -- fine -- but don't you guys ever for example have to translate a document from one language into another -- not a complex application -- but to do this efficiently you need BOTH DOCUMENTS visible at the same time. - Switching between the two in full screen mode (Metro) is NOT a sensible way of doing this task.

Of course using "Native Desktop" and Office 2010 will work but that rather defeats the whole concept of the new Windows 8 start screen etc.

So I'm staying with W7 for REAL work -- W8 is fine for loads of things -- I don't dislike it -- but as a desktop OS it's NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.

    Cheers

The Start Screen with live tiles are what makes it still Windows. It's not because you have different open items on the Desktop that makes it Windows, that's part of it. The other is the Start Screen.

I don't see how you can't do real work with Windows 8 over 7. If you use the Desktop primarily, then there is no real difference between 7 and 8, in fact it's just improved, much like 7 was an improvement over vista. Even then, the Start Screen is just a huge start menu that can be loaded with Desktop apps and locations, like the start menu before. Difference here is that it's faster to get to things.
