I am wondering if any of you have installed Win8 without satisfying "the official requirements," and, if so, what your experience has been having done so. I did it on a, I guess, 6-year old HP Pavilion lappy (2.2 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM), and the results have been definitely good enough. I have a couple of more or less minor problems, but others are experiencing the same ones even they they met the official requirements. Even the two GB of RAM is OK since I am not doing anything remotely demanding.
I have attached, via two pngs, my "Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant Report" FYI. Note that I ran the assistant after doing the upgrade so it shows that I am running Win8 already. Note that two items are duplicated towards the middle of the report because of my carelessness.
I also wondering what I am missing by not having the UEFI interface. I don't perceive that I need to change any related settings. Action Center alerted me to an updated driver for my card reader. I did the update. And, the assistant report indicated that I needed an app to play DVDs. So, I got the free Media Center download. The only other thing I had to do (because I hate tap to select) was to get, from HP, a Vista driver (probably updated from the original) for my touchpad. I had to do the same when upgrading from Vista to Win7 on the same machine.
