Disk space usage bars in 'My Computer' are missing

    Hi,

For some reason, the disk space usage bars in 'My Computer' are missing. Although they should be visible in 'tile view', I can only see the drive icons, not the bars. Interestingly, When I open a file in e.g. Word I can see the bars in the open file dialog (also in 'tile view'). I've already tried resetting the folder view settings, but without any luck.

I was able to find one other thread about this problem, but no one was able to pinpoint the problem and provide a proper solution.

Hopefully, someone can help me out.. Thanks in advance!

Hello KeyMs, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you haven't already tried OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to reset folder views back to default, then it may be worth a try.

Folder View Settings - Reset to Default in Windows 8

Could you also post back with a screenshot showing this to see if it may reveal a cause?

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Thanks so much! To my surprise, that actually worked. I'd done OPTION TWO and I was under the impression that had to do the trick, but as you've stated in the tutorial:

This option will reset the folder view settings of only all folders using the same folder template as the currently opened folder on the computer back to default...
So that probably explains it : )

    You're most welcome.

Yep, that would be why if it didn't have the same folder template.

Brink, thanks for this. I just got a new laptop with Win8 and was having this problem also. Your batch file did the trick.

Mine vanish from time to time, but they always come back. Maybe it is a view setting?

Oh Yah, if you set the Folder View Options and hit "Set All folders to look like this" it will overwrite the default window behaviour

That option is greyed out for some reason.

    Popeye,

Only when you open Folder Options from within that folder and no other location will "Apply to Folders" not be grayed out.
