    Windows 8 32 bit to 64 bit?

I have recently upgraded my Lenovo notebook from Windows 7 32 bit to Windows 8 32 bit.
I would like to do a clean install to 64 bit.

If I upgrade my Windows 7 64 bit Desktop PC and create a USB recovery, can I use this to install the 64 bit system to my notebook using the the 32 bit product key I already purchased?

I tried to get an answer from Microsoft, but their online support didn't fully answer or understand my question; I hope I have made it clear on this forum??

My main reason for upgrading is that my Notebook was wrongly advertised as having a 64 bit OS, I did receive a small rebate from the supplier but not enough to purchase a complete new OS.

    Many thanks in advance

You can use the windows 8 64-bit installation media, just use your key you got when you upgraded the 32-bit one. Why were you using 32-bit Windows 7 to start with?

I'm not sure about using a "USB recovery" device.

I'd prefer getting the Win8 upgrade in a generic form. (I bought the download version, and had it create an .iso, which can be used to create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive. Whatever device you use, to go from 32 to 64 bits the device must be bootable. You must boot the PC from it, and then do a clean install.)

I haven't verified it, but the Win8 license is supposed to be good for both the 322 and 64 bit versions. (One activation at a time per key, as always.)

You might have a problem using the 32 bit Win8 installation to qualify the 64 bit version. The worst case is that you'd have to go back to Win7 (32 bit would be OK) to get the Win8 upgrade to activate properly. There may be a work-around for that (registry hack), but I have no personal experience with it.

When downloading the upgrade you need to

    information   Information

If you need to download 32bit Windows 8, download from a 32bit PC.
If you need to download 64bit Windows 8, download from a 64bit PC.

    Hi
    Thank you for your reply.

My Lenovo notebook was pre-installed with Windows 7 32-bit so could only upgrade to Windows 8 32-bit.
My Desktop is Windows 7 64 bit which I'm thinking of upgrading to Windows 8 64-bit. I am trying to ascertain if I create a bootable DVD with this upgrade can I use it to do a clean 64-bit install on my Notebook and still use the 32-bit producy key that I already purchased.
