Windows Media Player Problem

I have dowloaded some videos from BBC iplayer to play via WMP, when I open the file the media usage rights are downloaded ok but the video is unwatchable.

If there is no sound the picture is fine but as soon as there is any sound white and grey squares appear and the whole picture is jerky and distorted..(but the sound is ok)

I downloaded the Basic codec pack but that did no good..Have asked the BBC for help but had no reply..

Hope someone has an idea of what is wrong as it is really bugging me..

Probably not much help but let me suggest trying the free open source MPC classic.
Media Player Classic - I use it for all videos. DVD, MP4, DivX, AVI - all formats.
It needs the download from Microsoft of the older DirectX Runtime files.

Download DirectX End-User Runtime from Official Microsoft Download Center

Hopefully, you are not having some form of proprietary rights issue, drivers or video problems.
Did you have any issues prior to installing codec packs or other add ons?

I use Media Player Classic for all other videos, DVD's etc but the BBC only enables use for WMP so I have to use that for their downloads..well they do have their own desktop player but that won't download onto my PC ...not having a very good BBC experience really!!

I did have nVidia driver problems but sorted that out and downloaded the codecs only yesterday to try to fix the problem after readig about installing them on here, had the problem before they arrived!

I used to download the content fine and watch on WMP in Vista it is since installing 8 that I am having trouble.
