Will Microsoft restore Start Menu to Windows 8?

There is now speculation that the Start Menu will return:

Will Microsoft restore Start Menu to Windows 8?

With Sinofsky out, everything is now possible, Microsoft already step back on the fact that Directx 11.1 will not only run on Windows8 , but on 7 too , this is a major step back.

"Microsoft may have just stunned the PC community with their latest available update involving DX 11.1. In a very unprecedented move, Microsoft has released a beta platform update that includes some DX 11.1 benefits for Windows 7 users. This is very unlike Microsoft considering they have always tried to use DirectX as a tool to force gamers into upgrading to their latest OS."

    I like this part

"Sinofsky persuaded Ballmer to replace the Start Menu with a hybrid touch screen, plus keyboard and mouse interface. He had his detractors. But Sinofsky successfully argued that it was crucial for the company to orient Windows PC users toward the look and feel of the all-new Windows 8 Surface touch tablet and the latest Windows Phone 8 smartphone models. He might have won the internal debate. But convincing millions of home and workplace users of Windows that the switch was for their own good hasn't gone well."

You might not be far off lol, all we need now is for them to offer a metro download and a few updates for windows 7 and we will have all wasted our money.

Yeah, people have told me to just get used to it too. They don't understand that it's not a matter of not understanding how to use it..but rather it's a matter of the wrong tool for the task. For example, you CAN pound a nail with a wrench, but a hammer is a better choice.

You can hammer a nail into a piece of wood with a Nokia Lumia 920 as well....

I read an article that was posted around here in how to get Windows 8 to act more like 7. I read through it, and in the time it took me to read through it, I already had the default Libraries, Computer, Task Manager, Help and Support, and Calculator pinned to Start and already arranged the tiles neatly on an install of Windows 8 Pro I'm doing right now on a person's PC. In my hand to GOD opinion, it's just far easier to use the Start Screen than the menu. If you need functionality of the start menu on the Start Screen, it's just a simple right click and pin. Then it's up to you to arrange away. Don't like the apps? Simple right click and uninstall.

    Um...no.

    Earlier versions were certainly backwards-compatible.

New releases would need the latest(?) DirectX, but games that required
the earlier versions would almost always be able to run.

I can remember several versions on my W95/98 and XP machines.

The current situation has only been the case since Vista, IIRC.

At this point I doubt they can add the start menu back in this original form because the windows key(I think that's the name) opens up the start screen. They could implement the use of it back though but it would probably need to be renamed. The only real reason for me to use it is I need a menu that is visual that can be accessed by clicking and not hovering. Also it just allows certain things to have easier access. I don't even need the directory for programs but even a folder that quickly accessible for programs on the desktop would be nice.
