    VB Script not working

    Hello:

I am knew in this forum.
I have just bought Dell XPS 12 Duo with Windows 8.
I was used to working with Windows 7 and i have few VBS script which worked just fine in Windows 7.
Now the same script would not work on Windows 8.
I would appreciate if someone can help me resolve the problem so that i can run my VB Script.

    Thank you..

"It doesn't work" is not a useful problem report. How would you feel if someone came up to you and said they had a problem and just told you it didn't work?

I'm not going to run a random script. EXPLAIN what the problem is. "It doesn't work" doesn't help.

    Hello:

Basically in Windows 8, when i double click the vbs script, nothing happens.
In Windows 7, when i run the script, it would attach the paystub for employee in Outlook for email.
The email address is truncated within the pdf paystub file name.
Do you need any further information.

    Thanks

So you have no idea how the script works? Maybe you should ask the person that wrote it.

Where does the paystub come from?

    Hello:

Paystub is created by Excel macro in pdf file format and stored at C:\1Mostly_Used_Files\Supna\MTS\Paystub to be emailed\.

    File name is like : 10-31-2012_Karyn L Treciak$279.16%kltreciak@hotmail.com.pdf

Here the email address is trucated by vb script as kltreciak@hotmail.com.

And running the script would open Outlook and attach the above file to email to kltreciak@hotmail.com.

My question is if Windows 8 support vbs? If yes then the script should work as it works in Windows 7.

rizmomin, what happens when you run it? What errors do you get?

Is there anything in Event Viewer that may give a clue to what is happening?

Do you have Office installed and is Outlook there and setup?

I need to point out, as I did to the other guy, when these VBscripts were made, Windows Networking used NetBeui and IPS/XPS protocols, maybe NetBT. This probably affects how the scripts run over the network.

Removal of NetBEUI seems to be a huge problem, this is why Hospitals and government agencies have not updated to 7 - They have huge networks built with this protocol, and their server machines depend on it.

MS removed the other protocols so that all networking is run over IPv4 and 6, and 6 seems to be a huge problem too, plus no ISPs are using it.

Search google for "Disable Universal Naming Convention" - It's for XP, but it is in Windows 7 and maybe 8. Try disabling the naming convention, see if your scripts run.

That is a very simple script and it runs perfect on my system (Win 8 Pro, Office 2007). I setup folder named "C:\1Mostly_Used_Files\Supna\MTS\Paystub to be emailed\" and then dropped a PDF in it named
"10-31-2012_Karyn L Treciak$279.16%kltreciak@hotmail.com.pdf". I clicked on the script file and it opens Outlook and creates and formats an email with file attached all ready to be sent.

Assuming you have Outlook installed I can't see much that could go wrong. What I would do is edit line#1 in the script "On error resume next" and change that line to "On error goto 0". That's a zero. That will cause the script to stop running and report any errors when they occur. Post the result that should solve the mystery right away. The only other thing I can think of is to try running it logged into an admin account.
