Keeping start screen on main monitor

I have two monitors. The desktop is always showing on the second monitor. If I have the start screen on the main monitor and click on the desktop on the second monitor, the main monitor switches to desktop. Is there anyway to keep the start screen on the main monitor in this situation?

I don't think so. Your desktop actually spans across both monitors while the Metro screen can only ever be opened full screen on one monitor. As soon as you change the focus to the desktop on any monitor Metro will disappear. It would be nice if it didn't do that with dual displays.

That's what I thought. What I find strange is that when an app is running full screen on the main monitor, it stays up when I click on the second monitor. This Windows 8 is taxing my brain.

IMHO this kink is because Metro isn't dual monitor friendly. I have two 19 inch LCD's but they aren't wide screen, so Metro snap won't work.

Yes, it's clearly obvious that multidisplay was not thought out very well. Whoopee doo, we can tell the task bar to extend and specify what display to show what icons. They haven't even enabled clock and/or systray on the 2nd or 3rd taskbars - again, way behind in the times. This is kindergarten stuff that 3rd party apps have done for years.

And what's the point to having live update tiles if you only see them for the 5 seconds it takes you to invoke the start screen and launch an app? It's very poorly thought out, but wait - oh yes, that whole tablet thing on a PC. Well played.

No doubt because 99.9% of PC users only have one display...

Microsoft has to focus on their core user base, which frankly is fairly unsophisticated. Windows can't be everything to everybody, unfortunately.

The real reason, is that Microsoft cut corners on this one , because they are too blind with the Tablet and Phone Google and Apples share of the market. stock holders complain about this, so they are scares for their a$$ and forget the rest. This is completely stupid the way Windows 8 run on multi-monitor, no excuses at all for a such flaw and laziness

I think Microsoft was smart to head in that direction, whether it was a money grab or not. The reason they're infatuated with the tablet/smart phone market is because more and more, that's what people are using. The desktop paradigm is slowly dying, like the DOS command line before it... And like I said, most PC users don't give a rat's ass about multi-monitor setups.

As you'll know, with multi monitors in Windows 8 you have a start screen on both monitors - but when you launch an application, it'll launch on the screen it was previously on rather than the screen you launched it from (the screen you were using the start menu on). What I was wondering is if...
