This is probably related to an extension installed by some app. Many apps create right click extensions for Explorer, and some of them are not compatible with the new explorer and crash it.

I tried googling, came up with no solution, you could post in the crashes and debugging section or if you haven't got much to re-install you could go for a Refresh or clean install. Sorry, couldn't help.

But thing is that I can never sense that explorer had crashed.. It showed up in the reliability history and I thought of posting it..

By the way brummyfan, since this has occurred from day one of install, I think refresh or reset would not help.

No, Microsoft is unlikely to release any patch for this because the problem is not Microsoft's. The problem is related to a third party app you have installed, which has installed an explorer extension.

You have to figure out what app it is, and remove it. I know it's a pain, but I would simply start removing any apps you know have shell extensions until the problem goes away. If you don't know which ones have shell extensions, then a good place to start is to open Regedit, and navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers and that may give you an idea. You can then search for the GUID's that are contained in the individual handlers looking for clues as to the name of the program.

Finally, you could just start removing all programs until it goes away. Once you identify the problem, you can add the rest of the ones you removed back.

From here where do I navigate to??
reg.PNG

I am ready to uninstall the program if you will tell me which one is causing the explorer to crash.

I will post the reg pics after you tell me where I should navigate next

Is it due to winzip, that I found there??

I uninstalled it(winzip)..

So most likely the problem would have been solved right..

By the way here is my list of installed programs

Well, WinZip looks like the only thing there. Version 17 should be new enough to not cause problems.

Some other things in there that I would suspect: CCleaner has said point blank that it's not compatible with Windows 8 yet. Be very careful with using it, as others have had important fonts deleted, among other files.

PowerDVD might install a context menu as well, but i'm not sure.

Other potentials are VirtualBox, Adblock, and VLC.

I'm not saying any of those are causing the problem, i'm just saying that you should look at them as potential sources. If the problem persists, uninstall them. If the problem doesn't go away, you can reinstall them.

I will keep observing them.. By the way power dvd 12 is fully compatible with windows 8.

I restarted and have not experienced crashes yet.. I will continue to test for a few days and will post back the results.. Let us then see what appropriate action has to be taken..

If you see me program list winzip was installed on the first day of install itself...the crashes also started on the first day itself..where as virtual box, other programs were installed after a couple of days.. Even I think winzip is the cause for the explorer crash.

By the way ccleaner support windows 8 completely.

Well, glad you fixed it. You could try re-installing and seeing if it was a fluke. Personally, I prefer using WinRAR instead.
