Will Windows RT work, and the x64 architecture rule or RT win the race?
Mac OS X will become superior if MS chooses the wrong idea.

I love Microsofts idea of the future. :)
I do enjoy my x64 Intel PC more than the RT edition. I think it may be timing. ;)

Is there someone here aside of Coke, who is not thinking that MS already fail. They fail few years ago when they lost the search engine battle. Google already purchase Motorola, what will stop them to purchase Nokia ?

Microsoft was late in the search engine battle so they never lost to Google, losing to Google would mean they were once the top search engine and lost out. Although Bing is long way off in market share from Google they are still the 2nd most used search engine. Bing's market percentage has been slowly climbing monthly and Googles has slowly been declining. Although it's not by much the trend has been this way for a couple of years already.

You think Bing was the first Microsoft Search Engine ? Google was officially found in 1998 , in 1998 Micrsoft already have MSN Search

Bill Gates in 2003 told one of his executives, "These Google guys, they want to be billionaires and rock stars and go to conferences and all that. Let's see if they still want to run the business in two or three years."

Near 10 years later, Bill what do you think of android phones ?

They did however succeed with the Xbox.
.

And what if Google purchase Nintendo ?

Who gives a crap if Nintendo is purchased. I have a wii and its for my 5 year old. It's the most overrated game system of all time.

I really like my 360, it's the console I game on 90 percent of the time and use for hbogo. My ps3 gets about 9.9 percent of gaming, but all of my blu Ray and Netflix watching. My Wii gathers dust. I've not games on it more than about 5 hours. Total unicorns.

I'm going to refute as that seems to be my stereotype.... :)

IE is currently the most used browser across the different Windows platforms. Current IE 10 is king until google updates chrome after a few updates.

Zune was FAR too late to the market. 2006 was a bad year to chose an mp3 player release, 2003 would had been more appropriate. Now, it's been rebooted to Xbox Music, the app is questionable and being from Microsoft, still a work in progress as January will bring new updates to it. But content wise it's real nice.

Don't know how this can be refuted.

Actually, funny you say they were late to the tablet market....
401810_825820536868_1024453607_n.jpg

Not only that, Microsoft developed Windows 3.11 for pen computing, which was basically tablet computing with a stylus.

Xbox is king, has been for a straight 22 months.

Their keyboards are real decent, mice are as well.

Windows Phone was technically late to the party, but Windows Mobile was a decent smartphone platform LONG before apple really had a good streak going. The iphone more or less made the smartphone a commonplace device when it was used mostly for business pros.

Microsoft was late to the party, sometimes fashionably late, sometimes when the party already climaxed and fizzled out. Microsoft has set their goal to beat apple at EVERY turn and blow up every rock that apple considers touching. Which makes the possibility of them building a Surface Phone, a Surface AIO, and even building an Xbox Surface tablet. This also made them expand the Xbox as a cable box and multimedia center for the living room outside of just gaming. This may also make them use the Kinect for more than gaming, which is being done for Windows 8 apps, and possibly using it as an total hand gesture input device for the PC. Overall, though sometimes late, they end up with a good portfolio of winners.

REFUTED!

I never said they didn't end up with a popular browser..albeit popularity by including on the OS. But they were way behind the curve on it.

Sure they have been around the tablet realm for a long time, just with products that are hardly used and in almost 0 demand.

The zune was a complete waste of time. Did they even break 3 percent of the marketplace?

And I have props to the 360 and their hardware devices (keyboards.and mice). I used to use the ergo 4000 almost exclusively until I went with a mechanical keyboard instead. I still use a Microsoft trackball explorer on 4 computers. Including my everyday work computer.

Keyword, WERE. Also, they just pulled a good business tactic and leveraged their Windows platform for IE, much like they're doing now for Xbox being leveraged as a multimedia device and using Windows to leverage better into tablets.

Speaking of such, they have had little demand, but who's to say that's true now? The base Surface RT tablet was out of stock after a couple of weeks in the US and UK. People are more interested in touch Windows devices than ever before, so this assumption of demand should be waited out for a while to see what's up.

Zune was overall a waste of time for the market, but it ended up sparking Windows Phone 7 and 8, Windows 8, and the concept of one OS to rule them all, one UI to rule them all; which is something no one has done yet because Microsoft is in the unique position to leverage that concept on their product line. ALL due to a failed device.

Love my Microsoft Touch Mouse, especially with Windows 8!

Time will tell if the surface takes off. I'm not convinced yet that it will be a great seller..meanwhile ipads are still fliying off the shelf.

Windows phones are also a wait and see for me. I only have 2 friends with Windows phones and we all laugh at them. I know far more people who carry BlackBerry still.

Never seen a touch mouse, I'm very attached to my trackball.

As to whether this new UI will rule them all..They have an uphill climb. Commercials look good, but it's been a dud for most people I know personally.

It's pretty convincing that the Surface tablets will sell. I mean honestly, when was the last time EVER a Microsoft built device has received SO much attention and desire? Ever since being announced, it's literally the number one tablet PC choice among Windows tech heads, and even here, some touch and tablet die-hard haters might consider one. Also, when was the last time a Microsoft built device actually ran out of stock with shipping being delayed due to demand?

Sure, ipads will and still sell, but I bet ipads are great for technological luddites and farmers trying to take advantage of a technological trend only to be trumped by something SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO much more better and cost effective and more practical that it will end up causing some buyer's remorse.

Windows Phone are kind of a wait and see right now. Today, I ACTUALLY saw a Verizon Wireless advert for Windows Phone at a kiosk at the mall. The VERY same kiosk a friend of mine tried to get a case for his HTC Trophy and the sales person looked at him and said that they don't carry that phone or even know what it is. Now, they ACTUALLY know what Windows Phone. I even asked about it earlier this week at the Verizon Store, and not even mentioning Windows Phone, the sales person knew what I was talking about. And this was before when a sales person there months ago said that Windows Phone is awful because it has 4,000 apps, when it had over 80,000 at the time. I laugh at iphone users at being jacked into paying hand over fist for an extra inch (hope wives and girlfriends don't leave their iphone 5 using husbands and boyfriends for an extra inch) and something overrated and overhyped for something that doesn't actually live up to it. I empathize with android users because many are all pissed at their crapdroids breaking and being so slow just to trying to use it, and even risk their personal data as 18 percent of some apps actually do, and even has gotten to the point where anti-malware apps are being installed on android phones, on PHONES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. I'm shocked when I see a blackberry user, it's like seeing vintage car being driven on the streets.

Trackballs are not my cup of tea, it just seems weird.

Lots of my friends think surface looks cool, but not a single one has decided it's worth paying that much for. We mostly see the RT as being useless, and the pro as likely too expensive. I just think MS should have skipped the whole RT altogether and tried to get a pro out around the 500 price point.

Most people hate trackballs. I use a touchpad with my fingers to move and my thumbs to click. That is how the trackball explorer works, so it's very natural for me. I move the cursor around with my fingers and click with my thumbs. It's just too bad they quit making this mouse. I am glad that I bought 4 of them, so I.have extras it'd they ever start to break. Even my Linux box has a Microsoft keyboard and Microsoft trackball. It's only my main machine where I use a mechanical keyboard and thinking heavily about getting one for work. Co-worker had das model s, and its quiet enough for work.

As far as Android goes, we use a lot of them at work and most are quite happy with their phones. Several employees just became eligible to upgrade their phones at work and those on iPhone stayed on iPhone and those on droid stayed on droid. Nobody felt inclined to try Windows phone. You can call android crap all you want, but I have been responding on my.Samsung galaxy S3 all night with the Swype keyboard and I am 1000% satisfied with it.

Of course you would like to see such a device, as would everyone else. But it's not financially feasible as Intel hardware is much more expensive than ARM hardware, and requires a lot more battery.

The RT is designed to compete with the iPad, not desktops.

They were late to the browser.

Not terribly late. Internet Explorer was released less than a year after Netscape hit the market.

They were late with tabbed browsing.

No, they made a deliberate decision to NOT support tabbed browsing, because tabs violated the windows design guidelines and made it much more difficult to switch between things. They eventually capitulated, because the value of tabs exceeds the frustrations with the style violations.

They were late with the zune.

Apple beat everyone there.

They were late with using non admin accounts.

Microsoft has had non-admin accounts since NT was released in 1993. Certainly, Unix had non-admin accounts before that, but in PC OS's, they were actually the first (technically, Linux existed in 1991, but nobody really used it until about 1995 with the release of slackware)

They are late to the tablet market.

Microsoft has had tablet versions of it's OS since 1991 with Pen Windows. It's more accurate to say they are late with a SUCCESSFUL tablet version, but they've had a dozen different versions over the years. Microsoft is hardly late. Perhaps late with touch-based tablets, but the iPad has only really been out for 2 years.

I just think windows RT makes things more confusing. I just know it as windows that cannot run old legacy software. Other than that I have no clue what it really is and the RT doesn't help the consumer distinguish either. What I think was microsoft's problem with the browser was they got lazy because they felt they won and no longer needed to update of course I was young so I didn't even know that but now I know they stopped updating IE for a while until they started picking up the slack. The problem is they take a long time to update. They need quicker updates. Everytime they update they are already behind.

Zune was actually one of the products I actually do like from them specifically the Zune HD because it really looked fun. The problem with Zune was it was late they should have released it when iPod was starting or before after iPod saturated the market it was too late. It doesn't help that the software in Zune players was not that well done. I don't own one but I've seen how it looks like and it looks bad. Whoever designed the interface really did not help sell it. Also it wasn't even marketed or brought outside of USA. They took a while to even bring it to Canada. They didn't even try to sell their product. It makes users lose faith in them and potential customers not want to buy their product. They didn't even try to get global attention. It's one thing if they tried and failed but they didn't try so they basically just failed and gave up. I'm sure there are potential users and even current users that feel betrayed. On top of that Microsoft is obviously not and probably will never focus their efforts in media which is what most of casual users (they people that would buy stuff) are focused. Media player has not been updated for a long time. Zune was never known outside of US. Frankly, I've never seen a commercial in US, so obviously Microsoft needs a better marketing department. They should put more focus on media where there is a lot of consumption, at this rate everyone will just stay on iTunes. XBOX music looks blah, which is how Microsoft probably feels about their media department in general. I was using the XBOX music windows 8 metro app in a store, it just felt unexciting. It just looked depressing.

The Pro being 500 wouldn't happen for many reasons.

And I must say, the last I've checked the vast majority of android are versions 3 and below. Version 4 is just barely over 10 percent, meaning a LOT of people using android phones probably aren't seeing the same satisfaction that you and other ICS users are.

I've been responding all night with Windows 8 and I'm overjoyed with it. :D
