Hiding a folder from the Pictures tile?

Let's say I have ten folders in my Pictures library all full of pictures, and they get cycled on the Live tile for the Photos app, and also show up under "Pictures" once you've opened the Photos app.

Is there a way to hide a folder so it's physically in my Users\Libraries\Pictures location, but WON'T show up under the Photos app?

    Thanks!

From what I am reading it is not possible. All you can do is move the folder out of the pictures library. I may be wrong, but I had to do that as well. It would be nice if there were a .nomedia type of way to do it similar to android.

this is straight from MS: Photos app: Frequently asked questions - Microsoft Windows Help

Can I customize the Photos app? Yes, you can change the app background photo and choose which photo appears on the Photos app tile on the Start screen.
To change the app background photo

    • In the Photos app, browse to the photo you want to use and tap or click it to open it in full screen view.
    • Swipe down on or right-click the photo, tap or click Set as, and tap or click App background.
The photo you picked will be the background on the main page of the Photos app.

To change the app tile photo

    • In the Photos app, browse to the photo you want to use and tap or click it to open it in full screen view.
    • Swipe down on or right-click the photo, tap or click Set as, and tap or click App tile.
You'll see the photo you picked on the Photos app tile on the Start screen.

so it would appear that there isn't a way. That doesn't mean a third party app may be availablie (I don't know) but as far as the MS tile, doesn't look like it.

    Here is what I did.
I have several folders under pictures library. I just set the folder properties as hidden (apply to folders only). Those folders won't show up in pictures app. If in case, it still show up, try sign out and back in.
Hope that works for you too.

Does it have to be in the pictures library? You can place it elsewhere and even use the desktop picture viewer.

Agree this is a major flaw in the app. Also is very unclear what you do with it. You can't edit. Why even have it?

I much prefer the free windows live photo gallery...still available, as functional, in some ways better than IPhoto in my opinion.

How is showing pictures in the pictures library a flaw?

Unless it's porn, in which case you're supposed to hide it and never use media managing apps with it, unless they're password protected or you need to access a secret function in order to access the pictures.

And no FYI it's not porn. I am elderly my first wife died. I have many pictures of her and my family that for personal reasons I'd prefer not to have flashing on my start page. And yet I don't want to "hide them" It's an issue with many people...read the review of the app on the windows 8 app section.

It's a simple matter of being able to control what you computer is doing. I find many programs to be a bit too presumptuous.

I think the flaw is that you cannot choose which pictures get shown and which don't. It would be like having the live wallpaper change every 30 seconds but you can't tell it what pictures you want. You can of course and this makes it quite nice, but the photo app does not allow this kind of personal setting and in some ways is indeed a flaw.....

I'm sure someone will eventually come up with a better photo viewer that allows you to select this. Why not create one yourself and make some money?
