Was Wondering because When I used to do it on windows 7 I would Choose Install along side windows but it seems after installing windows 8 Grub Boot Loader is getting bypassed.

My laptop is configured this way. I lost GRUB after reinstalling 8 over 7 (fresh install after getting the $40 upgrade ISO). I plopped in my livecd and did take some steps to restore my GRUB though. I used an online article to help me.

11.10 - Recovering grub after installing windows 7? - Ask Ubuntu The boot-repair answer here is what I went with. It worked.

But yeah, Ubuntu 12.10's partitioner is worded odd. I just went custom and manipulated my partitions manually. When I installed Windows 7, I already gave it a set size partition to start with. I gave Ubuntu a set size partition, and then the rest was left free for a big data partition. When replacing Windows 7 with Windows 8, I re-used the Windows 7 partition, but lost GRUB. I followed my link above to alleviate that. My laptop successfully dual boots windows 8 and ubuntu 12.10 as we speak.
