Win8 PC Hanging When Use Media Center or Zune

Hello,

I just recently performed a Clean install of Win8 Pro on my older HP a1210n. I also added a nvidia gt520 graphics card shortly after installing windows 8.

Everything was running great, no issues until I downloaded Zune (Use for Windows Phone 7). Shortly after launching Zune and navigating through screens the PC just froze (no messages, no errors). My only option was a hard boot. No messages or errors on re-boot. I tried uninstalling Zune and reinstalling and the same thing happened. Also, it was random when occurred. I also ended up doing a new Install of Windows 8 since I had added my video card after installing Windows 8. At this point, it seemed to be a fix, no crashes.

I then installed Media Center and began to experience the same issue, just random hanging requiring hard boot. I did check troubleshooting and found that the Media Center was corrupt?? So, I followed the procedure of turning off the Media Center feature and then after re-start, turning on the feature. It seemed to work, but it hadn't.

I would imagine it has to do with my video card, right? Hopefully, I provided enough info for someone to begin to help me to resolve this problem. Otherwise, my pc with Windows 8 (Which I think is great so far!) has been working fine.

If I need to send anything from Event Viewer please include instructions. I have not done this in the past. I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks

It shouldn't be your card since it would have proprietary drivers, I read that people like myself running intel gpu have problems because of the generic drivers that W8 is using to run on them.

Everywhere I looked a lot of people are having problems and the two problems is either generic video drivers or you need to install .net framework 2.0 and .net 3.5

Thanks DMGrier for your input. When you install Media Center (I think it was), it also installed the .net framework, 2.0 and 3.0 as well as 4.5?? I don't find it in Programs. It's in Features. I'm not sure if that would make any difference.

I thought I would get more help here. Any other forums you would recommend for help with this?

Honestly if people on here cannot figure it out then I do not know who could. That was the only thing I could find or even think off. Are they going to offer xbox music to you cause I know that has been working flawlessly for myself.

I would think we would have had some response from someone by now. The only reason I need to or want to use Zune is because of my Windows Phone 7. I have to use it to sync. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. But, I would still like to be able to use Media Center. I'm just not sure why it just freezes and hangs. I've had task manager up while running it and it would seem to tax the processor, but I don't think to the point where it should just stop responding. Let me know if you find anywhere else for help and I'll do the same.
