Windows 8 laptop keyboard problems

  1. #11

I am having the same problem where if I try to do anything with the letters T, F, etc... (there are more) it takes me to settings, or something else. I've had this Toshiba Windows 8 laptop for not even a month now and I'm so disappointed in this. I need to type a lot and this is making me go crazy! I can't edit pictures without it taking an hour to get to my programs. I've tried turning off hotkeys, sticky keys, slowing down the sensitivity and other suggestions on this site. Nothing. I don't know what to do. Call Microsoft? Call best buy? Return it? Get them to repair it? Help!!!!!!!

First, go here: Official Toshiba Support | Toshiba

You'll be asked for your model or serial number. I don't know what you'll have to do next, since I don't own a Toshiba.

However, I bought one with Vista on it several years ago. The thing kept crashing, and I kept having to restore it (always be sure to create your restore DVDs). I ended up taking it back to Best Buy and paid $100 more for a Hewlett Packard and haven't looked back.

That said, what you're describing probably happened because you hit the wrong combination of keys or something like that. I've done it a couple of times and it ain't pretty when it happens. Hopefully, the Toshiba site will be able to help you. If you do get help, be sure to keep a record of what it took to fix it, because you may do it again.

Also, once you have the problem fixed, be sure (if you haven't already) to create recovery disks.

Hmmm. I'm having the same problems as Glamour Girl. Whenever I'm typing something up, the letters become somekind of shortcut keys. I have an HP laptop. And this problem is getting annoying. I'm thinking of getting windows 7 now installed. I know that its not pressing 'wrong' keys because I would keep pressing the suspected letter and some annoying settings screen pops up. Should I call HP and see what they have to say about this? So far the only solution is turn-off the lap top and then the key board becomes normal again. However that gets annoying really fast. Any ideas or thoughts on this? Thanks

If keyboard won't work, use the soft keyboard to find Ease of Access in the charms and turn filter keys to off. If mouse or touch pad jumps around to much, find adjustments for tracking device. Turn off anything related to scrolling or automatic movement. Reduce sensitivity settings (you can always increase them later). The scroll feature on touch pads drives me nuts. By just getting rid of it, my touch pad is stable. I don't need a scrolling feature.

Pretty upset with the results of windows 8
Don't know if its me or what. But it seems that window wants me to use only Microsoft stuff. Like mail setup
Had to bring Google into it just to be able to use windows 8
I've never had a laptop that didn't do that! With my two HP laptops, there's a way to turn off the trackpad while using a regular mouse; are you using a mouse with the laptop? If so, that's probably your problem.

I think there's a way to go into the Device Manager and turn off the trackpad if you're using a mouse.
