Are there any plans by Microsoft to make Metro Tiles more edit-able?

Never thought I would say this, but Windows 8 is growing on me. I bought my copy for 40$ after a more extended trial. I still cannot see myself installing it on my work computer, but I see great potential for the OS as an entertainment pc, once some of the quirks are worked out of it. Most of my beefs with the OS at this time almost all are just a symotom of how young and immature the OS is. Many of the apps feel like they were designed for very basic users, and there is not too much yet developed to cater to the power user, but I feel pretty confident that this will not remain true over time.

That said, does anyone know if there are any plans by Microsoft to make tiles a bit more editable. All normal non metro programs just have a tiny icon on them, some small word or words, and the rest is just an UN-attractive blank box. To me, this is quite anti-intuitive, and if there goal was to create an interface that was easier to use than the path that has been taken by IOS/Android, they are failing. How hard would it be to give us the ability to customize the look of an icon, so that it sticks out to my eye when I open my start screen..

I cannot even change the size of my non-metro icons, that includes Outlook and Microsoft word. As they are, they look like some sort of half installed maybe app..

    Any insights appreciated!!

I am giving it a shot. Still, seems like a lot of work, to change something that should have been included.. imo. Thanks for the heads up.!!

Really? Does windows 7 include an icon editor?

I don't think Windows has had an icon editor since Windows 3.1 or possibly 95.

Yes...kind of...... to change the icon on the desktop right click on the icon then select Properties then select the shortcut tab to change the icon to what you want.

This is for the desktop icons not the tiles.

But there is no Icon editor, which allows you to create or modify icons included.

Also, that technique only works for links, not for exe's or other kinds of objects. Tiles are a bit different though.

In Windows 8, if you have a custom library, Windows will let you use icons for that library image. 7 didn't do that without a third party.

I bet in time, Windows 8.5 or 9, that MIGHT come. I have a feeling Windows 9 will introduce the small tile, like Windows Phone 8 has now. That, and the animated lock screens. But I don't know, I think the icon size in the RTM is WAY better than it was before. They're MUCH larger and seem to be the right size to me...
