    Completely disable permissions...???

I hate this friggin nonsense. I cannot even save a generic file to my "C" drive. Even after a clean install. There must be a way to rid myself of this nonsense.

    Thanks.

    Hello Rickkins,

Are you trying to save a file directly to your C: drive from an external source (ex: internet or removable drive)?

If so, then that has not been allowed since Vista to protect your Windows system folders/files from being accessed from an external source. Instead, you must save it to a location in your user folders (ex: desktop or downloads), then move it from there to where you like.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

By default, it's not allowed. You may have been logged into the built-in elevated "Administrator" account then. It will let you in that account.

Be warned though. Windows Store apps will not work while signed in to the built-in elevated "Administrator" account in Windows 8.

I only ever have one account on my computer.... and I wouldn't metro apps, or whatever they're calling them this week, with a barge pole. But that's a whole different debate....

LOL, yeah hopefully this will be the last time the "Metro" name gets changed.

Aw f**k me, this is nuts. I followed the directions to get elevated privileges, but it's a different account, and I gotta start over....

There has got to be a better way to rid myself of this nonsense.

As Brink has stated and anyone who knows better.

The fact that you can not save files direct to the Root of C: drive is a good thing.
There is no good reason that I can possibly think of where you should be doing that anyway.

    1.) security reasons
2.) People are always saving stuff to the craziest places without knowing better, such as C: drive or in the root of their profile
Then they can't find their documents/files and go crazy.

Do you mind us asking why it is so important?

This is my machine, and I'll damn well save things to wherever I please without oversight by some friggin software co. And trust me, I do know better, I've been online since '94 and I have a degree in micro-computer repair.(basic A+ equiv).
And I have NEVER had this kind of moronic problem.

You can use the tutorial below to elevate your current (and all) administrator account to have the same rights as the built-in elevated "Administrator" account.

Be warned, that this will put your computer at a higher security risk. Anything you run while signed in now will have full unrestricted access to everything on your computer.
