W8 messes up another connected drive

I installed W8 on a separate drive from my W7. W7 works fine. W8 appears to work fine.
HOWEVER, when both drives r connected to the system at the same time and I try to boot W8 the W7 drive gets corrupted such that the next time W7 is booted it must run CHKDSK.
I did this on both a laptop and a desktop and get the same results.

any ideas why?

Win8 hybrid boot/fast start feature does that to other partitions that are visible to it. Disable that feature in Win8 or "hide" the Win7 OS partition from Win8

I tried disabling the fast start - with W7 drive disconnected
shut down W8, reconnected W7 drive and rebooted W8.
Shut down W8 and rebooted W7 - that worked, no chkdsk was run
I rebooted W8 - slowly and changed the drive letters on my W7 drive to N:, O:, P:, & Q:
Then did a regedit to set those drives as Offline using a 64bit Dword under the "Offline" key.
I re-enabled fast boot and rebooted W8.
So far so good EXCEPT W8 still shows N:, O:, P:, & Q: in File Explorer and I can fully access them.

Rebooted W7, CHKDSK was not run.

So i currently have both W7 & W8 drives connected, fast startup turned on & the Offline key with drive entries all set to 1 in W8, and it appears to be working without causing CHKDSK to run when I boot to W7 AND I can still access the W7 drives in W8.

Is there any kind of rational for that?

I guess the next thing to try is to remove Offline and see if it goes back the way it was - messing with W7.

I'm happy to hear that it's working properly now.

Did you set a separate \DosDevices\N: DWORD value for each drive letter?

Sure, it wouldn't hurt to delete the Offline key to see how it does afterwards. You can always set it back if needed.

well, if I delete the offline key it will be back to the way it was when I started.
But if the offline key is not doing what u said it would do relative to making the drive invisible on W8 then why would it be responsible for changing the operation relative to having to run chkdsk before W7 starts - which it seems to be???????????????

Well, the main thing is to test without the offline key, with fast startup turned off, and both drives still connected to see how it does.
