[Q] Tiles won't go where I want them.

Hey, I got Windows 8 last night and by god is it a shock to the system.
Its nice but you can tell its made for tablets/Phones!

Anyway my question is this, the tiles that are already there go about 3/4 tiles downwards, and then as you'll all know you can go as far across as you wish.

My problem is once I make my own tiles, right clicking and Pin to Start with File Explorer/CMD/Control panel etc.

When I try to move these around, they'll move but it will only let me put 2 down, then I have to go across again, this means that theres a big gap from the 2nd tile, to the bottom, whereas the already there tiles go right to the bottom.

When I try to put a 3rd tile going down, the 2nd tile is moved to the right therefor creating a new row !

I hope this makes sense and someone can help/explain why this is happening. Thanks !

I have attatched a screenshot (From Google) but edited it to try and explain more from what happens on my desktop.

    ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED !

Yes mine does sort of the same. You can't do a full third column because as soon as you put a second tile in the third column, a fourth column is started with that tile. So the third column is double width only. Don't know anyway around it.

    Yes exactly that !
Well why is it happening to us and not others, why can others put like 4/5/6 and we can only use 2 and then another column is created...!

As far as I know its like that for everybody. Screen size dictates how many tiles are in a column but it always goes by groups of two until you hit the bottom row. Then it starts another group of two columns right next to the previous group. it makes it a royal pain to arrange tiles the way you want.

I'm sorry I don't fully understand that, the rest of the columns (their by default after install) all have 3/4 tiles down. When I start to make my own coloumns, it goes 2 down and then starts a new column... The image isnt mine, its from Google, I drew around what I was trying to point out.

You can't have a single vertical column of tiles. As soon as you add a second tile to a group it will go side by side. Then it will keep going two by two until you reach the bottom. You won't get a third column until the first two are full. Wash, rinse, repeat.

    It's like that for everybody.

Ah, so if I create two columns, and then fill those columns they'll go fully to the bottom?
Then when those two are full, create two more?

If so this is silly, does microsoft like the number 2?

Yep, it's silly. My guess is it's because a large tile is 2 small tiles wide. The auto shuffle when trying to arrange tiles is quite maddening.
