I know there is a scanning app at the Windows store and also found one there specifically for Brother printers but these don't have features I used to have through my Brother MFC-5840CN before moving from Windows Vista to 8.1. Has anyone found any free or not-too-awfully-expensive apps or programs to do this?

Note that I somehow utilized an old driver on my first Windows8.1 64-bit computer but, after getting a new one recently, I haven't been able to duplicate that. HELP!

I think the generic scan app that comes with 8.1 will scan to pdf by default...but I could be mistaken. I know the HP scan app for my scanner will scan to pdf using 8.1. I would check it out but I'm not at home at the moment....will check it later this evening and let you know for sure.

What scanner are you using?

If it's an EPSON, then the EpsonScan application that came with the scanner, or preferably a new download from EPSON, will scan to PDF if you set it appropriately.

Update, the default Windows 8.1 scan does not scan to PDF files, it only scans to jpg, tiff, png, and bmp. As Dwig mentioned, get the updated software from the manufacture of your scanner...and I'm sure that will do the trick.
