    Hm interesting!
I right-clicked the empty drive and selected 'Eject' and it removed the drive icon and the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon too!
It also removed the integrated USB hub device (which can't be re-enabled until the device is physically re-plugged) :l

I guess I could make a .bat to enable/disable the card reader in Device Manager and use it only when needed. meh.

Odd... it dismounted the entire drive and you can't use it now?

Heh yea. It put the card reader (+USB hub) into a dismount state. I had to reconnect it before it would work again. How odd.
I wonder if there's a way to tell/trick Win8 into thinking a device is internal and cannot be unmounted/removed..?
Gonna have a look at the USB settings in the registry with USBDeview

For me this issue was totally resolved with Windows 7 when Marvell brought out their new controller drivers (Marvell SATA Controller Driver, 1.2.0.1027, 1.31MB, 2012/08/22). However under Windows 8 (tried those drivers without luck) it has gone back to this...

I have three SSD drives fitted but only the one fitted to the Marvell controller shows it as a SCSI type of drive and also it is able to be "ejected".

You can see how the Samsung SSD is being shown under the Intel and then under the Marvell controller...

...the solution could be when Marvell update their drivers again

Yeah it came back on reboot. Hopefully a future update will fix it.

Hello all, am running Win 8.1 Pro x64. Today I noticed that the "Eject" option from the right-click menu doesn't work for either of my 2 CD-Rom drives, nor for a "virtual" drive - I get the same error message on all 3: "An error occured while ejecting ". Device Manager shows no errors, and I've...
